| Fortress Games is closing down |
[Feb. 13th, 2007|11:07 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | crushed | ] |
Fortress Games will be closing its doors at the end of February. All items have been marked down 40% to 75% off from this point forward. Everything in the store must sell as well including chairs, tables, shelves, etc... Unfortunately this is not a joke. If there is anything you want, do not wait since it is likely to go fast.
Why are we closing? Well, there are a lot of reasons. Mainly, the state of the industry, shrinking gamer market and our declining sales simply tells us that locally only a few stores can be supported. As support drops for us, we will take this as a sign that the time has come. Other stores have also seen a sharp drop in sales while a few have seen a rise. For whatever reason, we are not the lucky ones.
While we had hoped that by our 4th year we would see an increase in business, the reality is only a handful of people are actually shopping us consistently and supporting the store and with that it is impossible to survive with our overhead. Some simply stopped coming in (for one thing or another), others stopped buying anything and some even actively avoided shopping here altogether but happily participated in events. There is no reasonable way for any store to survive under these circumstances and we need to get out before it gets any worse for us.
I know some of you may feel bad. That maybe if you shopped here more things would be different. While that is true to a point, the truth is more support than what a few people can offer is needed to make this place continue. Understand, if you shopped here occasionally and participated in events you did your part to help us and support the store and that is appreciated.
We have had some great people come here to the store and I am glad for all the people that I have met and the great friends I have made over the years. I plan to keep in touch and leave the website up so everyone can plan things and continue to post the crazy things I have come to look forward to.
If you care and want to help, please come buy anything and everything you can afford. If you yourself cannot, please help us spread the word to everyone you know and help us sell out what’s left in the store. That honestly would be the best help we can ask for right now.
As for the events – we will try and help the groups find a place to play. Let me know if I can do anything to help. The forums and the blogs on MySpace and Live Journal will remain active.
In closing thanks again to all that supported us. We had a great time knowing so many awesome people and hope to see many of you around. Visit our website or stop in if you want more details or just talk for a bit. www.fortressgames.com Fortress Games N78 W14579 Appleton Avenue Menomonee Falls, WI 53051 |

| Magic: The Gathering – Planar Chaos |

Dominaria’s temporal fabric is no longer fraying at the edges—it’s ripping down the middle. The time-rifts have not only merged the past with the present, but also splintered the timeline into thousands of alternate histories. These divergent Dominarias overlap with the known world in bizarre ways, combining the familiar with the shockingly new. Ragged holes in Dominaria’s planar borders permit a menagerie of alternate-reality faces and phenomena. Some legends from divergent histories recoil at the legacy their counterparts have left behind. Others see a chance for redemption. When does knowledge of the past not help predict the future?
The second set in the Time Spiral block, Planar Chaos features 165 cards with randomly-inserted premium cards. All cards in the set are tournament legal. It will be available in booster packs, theme decks, and Fat Packs.

Two "wonder women"? Sources in Hollywood say thtat Warner Brothers is in the process of acquiring a spec script for a Wonder Woman film by newcomers Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland, despite already having a deal with Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon to write and direct a film based on the DC Comics character. Reportedly this is considered a pre-emptive measure intended to keep the script off the market and to protect itself against any legal action prompted by similarities between the two scripts. The Jennison-Strickland script is reportedly set against the backdrop of World War II, while Whedon's script is set in the present day. Representatives for Warner Brothers and Silver Pictures declined comment.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Nine blinking electronic devices planted at bridges and other spots in Boston panicked the city on 31 January but it turned ut to be a marketing campaign for Aqua Teen Hunger Force, a late-night Cartoon Network series.
Peter Berdovsky, 27, of Arlington, and Sean Stevens, 28, of Charlestown, were each arrested on one felony charge of placing a hoax device and one charge of disorderly conduct according to state Attorney General Martha Coakley. In a news release announcing Stevens' arrest, she said the men worked together to place the devices. At an earlier news conference she said Berdovsky had been hired to place the devices.
Highways, bridges and a section of the Charles River were shut down and bomb squads were sent in before authorities declared the devices were harmless, the AP reported.
"It's a hoax—and it's not funny," Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said, the AP reported.
Turner Broadcasting, parent company of Cartoon Network, said the packages in question were magnetic lights that pose no danger and added that the devices have been in place for two to three weeks in 10 cities: Boston; New York; Los Angeles; Chicago; Atlanta; Seattle; Portland, Ore.; Austin, Texas; San Francisco; and Philadelphia.
"We regret that they were mistakenly thought to pose any danger," according to the company.
Blood and Chocolate Blood and Chocolate made use of real wolves while shooting in Romania, and the authenticity made for some interesting interactions with the cast and crew. "We had a 'wolf camp,' where we actually got to spend time with real wolves," director Katja von Garnier said in an interview. "The wolves had to get used to us, too."
All told, the film made use of 25 wolves, managed by Hungarian wolf trainer Zoltan Horkai. "Zoltan had a special relationship with them," said star Agnes Bruckner, who plays one of the werewolves. "He would start howling, and they would all start howling with him. They were wild animals, and it was very bizarre to have them around, but very cool."
In wolf camp, the cast learned breathing techniques and received physical and psychological training to get in the mind of a wolf. Hugh Dancy, who plays a human chased by werewolves, rehearsed by standing in front of the lead wolf every day.
Olivier Martinez, who plays the leader of the werewolf pack, said he didn't touch the wolves, but wasn't afraid of them. "No," he said. "They smell your fear, and then you become potential prey."
No Shredder TMNT, the upcoming animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, will not have Shredder (normally considered to be the TMNT’s arch nemesis) according to director Kevin Munroe. Series creator Peter Laird suggested the change. "Peter wanted to create new villains, and we tried to figure out what to come up with," Munroe said in an interview. "We dumped Shredder."
Munroe added that he was inspired by Batman Begins, which didn't bring back the Caped Crusader's most familiar villain. "I love the way that worked, and how the Joker is hinted at as being the next villain," Munroe said. "I think it would have been a mistake to bring in the Joker as the first [bad guy] in this latest round, and that is why we don't have Shredder in this one."
Instead, TMNT comes up with a combination of monsters and space aliens. "Peter is a huge monster fan," Munroe said. "He liked what we came up with, and he liked the tone of it. We wanted to be a bit like Ghostbusters, with that level of fun and imagination, and still stay grounded with the fact that they are family. We want it to be fun, not too crazy, but believable."
Star Trek comic in Klingon IDW Publishing will release an edition of its upcoming Star Trek comic in Klingon. Star Trek: Klingons: Blood Will Tell is a new, five-part miniseries that will be available in a special 40-page Klingon-language edition, accompanied by the original script in English to aid translation, the publisher said. The comic, which debuts in April, will also be available in a 32-page English-language edition.
Set in the universe of the original Trek series, Star Trek: Klingons: Blood Will Tell comes from writer Scott Tipton (aided by his brother, David Tipton) and artist David Messina. The series takes incidents from familiar episodes of the original series and retells them from the Klingon point of view.
The first issue centers on an unsteady peace that breaks into full-scale war after a Klingon cruiser is destroyed by the Federation starship Enterprise. Issue two will examine the result of Montgomery Scott's beaming of thousands of tribbles onto a Klingon cruiser. Artist Joe Corroney will join Messina in providing variant covers for the series.
New Painkiller Comics Dynamite Entertainment revives the Painkiller Jane comic series, from Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, kicking off with Painkiller Jane Number 0. The new series coincides with the SCI FI Channel's upcoming original series Painkiller Jane, which begins in April.
The introductory issue will lead directly into Jane's new comic series, which is due in the spring and which will introduce a new character.
The Sci Fi channel series will star Kristanna Løken in the title role. It is the story of Jane Vasko (Løken), a DEA agent who is recruited by a covert government organization tasked with capturing "Neuros" — genetically enhanced individuals who possess superhuman powers of the mind. During the course of her first investigation with the team, Jane inexplicably discovers that she, too, possesses extraordinary abilities, which render her impervious to injury … but not pain. She develops miraculous regenerative powers, heals from every injury and finds herself stronger than she had been before. As she continues to work with the government to hunt Neuros, Jane tries to uncover the cause of her own transformation and what, if any, connection she shares with the very people she is pursuing
The Screwtape Letters Producer Ralph Winter (Fantastic Four) is partnering with Philip Anschutz's Walden Media to bring C.S. Lewis' novel The Screwtape Letters to the big screen. Walden previously produced The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which grossed $744 million worldwide.
First published in 1942, The Screwtape Letters takes the form of a series of missives from a senior demon, Screwtape, to his wannabe diabolical nephew, Wormwood. As a mentor, Screwtape advises his protege on the finer points of undermining faith and promoting sin. His instructions are interspersed with observations on human nature and Christian doctrine. The book's current publisher, Harper San Francisco, reports sales of almost 1 million copies of the trade paperback since 2001.
The live-action feature adaptation is expected to have a release date in 2008.
This week's suggestion is from a loyal reader! With the upcoming Spiderman movie coming out this week I am highlighting Spiderman (2002).
Before Willem Dafoe received the role of the Green Goblin, both Nicolas Cage and John Malkovich were offered the role. Malkovich and Dafoe starred together in Shadow of the Vampire (2000), which was produced by Nicolas Cage.
James Franco auditioned to play Peter Parker, but was cast as Harry Osborn instead.
In addition to both Peter Parker and Norman Osborn wear their enemy's costume colors during the Thanksgiving dinner scene, Harry Osborn is seen wearing all of the colors. He's wearing a green shirt, red tie and blue coat.
Freddie Prinze Jr. and Leonardo DiCaprio were both considered for the role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
Sam Raimi was not Sony's first choice as director. Others considered were Jan de Bont, James Cameron, Ang Lee and David Fincher.
Alicia Witt was considered for the role of Mary-Jane Watson.
Mena Suvari auditioned for the role of Mary Jane.
Elisha Cuthbert auditioned for the role of Mary-Jane Watson.
Pre-production planning for Spider-Man actually began in 1986 by Cannon Films. Later, Cannon sold the production rights to Carolco Pictures. Carolco would later sell the production rights to Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. Sony and Marvel produced the Spider-Man film we see today, released through Sony's Columbia Pictures division.
James Cameron has many ideas for this film over the years as the rights to the character jumped between companies. Nearly all of his ideas were scrapped except for the biological web shooters.
The writers Alvin Sargent & Scott Rosenberg contribute to the last uncredited re-write on the shooting script.
In preparation for his role, Tobey Maguire trained for a short while before the screen test and after he got the role, went on a strict exercise regime and a specific diet for five months.
The scene at Columbia University was filmed on an unseasonably warm spring day, however, the costume department had provided the high school extras with cold-weather clothing. The real Columbia University students can be seen in the background wearing shorts and t-shirts by contrast.
A welder building sets for the movie was killed on 6 March 2001 when a crane toppled onto a construction basket in which he was riding and struck him in the head.
Zach Hudson, the stunt double for Tobey Maguire, fractured his leg after a stunt went wrong and he slammed in to a brick wall.
Several Spider-Man costumes were created at a cost of up to $100,000 each. Four were stolen from the set in early April of 2001 and Columbia Pictures posted a $25,000 reward for their return. The costumes were not returned.
The genetically modified spider that bit Peter Parker was not a black widow spider but a Steatoda spider, which was chosen by Steven R. Kutcher and painted red and blue by Jens Schnabel while the spider was anesthetized.
When the general is talking to Norman Osborn about the project being the creation of his predecessor, the background behind Norman changes from a wall with a railing above it, to him standing in front of the test chamber, between shots.
Mary Jane's jacket collar changes when she's talking to Peter outside the diner the first time.
After Peter punches Flash in the school hallway, a boy with glasses stands at the right behind a stunned Mary Jane and he looks at Peter in shock. When Harry is seen and says, "Peter, that was amazing", the same boy is now standing to her left and smiling, applauding Peter's actions. As Peter runs down the hall, the boy's position changes from Mary Jane's left to her right again.
There is a dial tone coming from Harry's cell phone after Mary Jane hangs up. Cell phone systems have no dial tone.
Mary Jane's hand disappears briefly from Peter's face at the cemetery.
When Peter Parker catches Uncle Ben's killer and throws him up against the wall, the killer is wearing his hat, but in the next shot he is not wearing his cap and his bad hair is showing.
While looking up at the balcony during the World Unity Festival, Peter's part in his hair changes as his spider sense first warns him of the goblin.
When Peter's uncle drops him off at the library, he parks on a one way street, but the reflection in the car's window shows traffic heading in the opposite direction.
When Norman and Peter talk before going into the science lab, the same girl with bright red hair and purple sweater walks by in different directions five times.
The hole which Spider-Man punches in the roof of a car disappears and reappears between shots.
Although Spider-Man is supposed to have perfect vision after his bite, Tobey Maguire's contact lenses are visible at various points throughout the movie.
A blonde woman walks past twice in the same direction when Peter finds out from Mary Jane that she is dating his best friend.
Norman's hand jumps on and off Peter's shoulder during the graduation ceremony.
The Green Goblin's arms are up, down, then up again between shots when he calls his jet glider.

| Creatures of Rokugan: Third Edition |
Rokugan has never belonged to humans alone. Ages before the dawn of the Empire, great civilizations built by non-human races such as the naga and the ogres marked the land, and although they are gone now, their descendants still dwell upon the earth and in the seas. Since the catastrophic Fall of Fu Leng, oni — the spawn of Jigoku and their terrible offspring — have walked the Shadowlands, warred against the Empire without cease, and even been summoned into Rokugan itself. And of course, a dazzling variety of creatures great and small have always been a part of this world — some fearsome, some benign, some visitors from other Spirit Realms, such as the playful kitsune and the terrifying tsuno.
This is their story, and no understanding of Rokugan would be complete without them. Creatures of Rokugan: Third Edition is a comprehensive catalogue of the remarkable creatures and monsters that populate Rokugan and the Shadowlands, presented to conform to Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying Game Third Edition rules. You will all manner of creatures, spirits, oni and ghosts here, from the sorcerous ashalan to the bizarre, but once-proud zokujin, and even more: • Over 200 entries, including some creatures never before described for any edition of Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying Game. • Rules for creating naga and nezumi player characters. • Detailed discussions of naga and nezumi history, society and culture, including their relation-ships with the Great Clans. • Rules for creating shapeshifter player characters, updated for 3rd Edition rules. • Standardized sets of traits and abilities for various classes of creatures makes them easier to use and remember. This book is a must-have resource for every Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying Game campaign, especially those that involve the Shadowlands. Because there are always times — whether it’s a maho-tsukai summoning an oni, or a haunting by a gaki, or a bakeneko having a bit of fun at a human’s expense — when it isn’t just about the samurai. Creatures of Rokugan: Third Edition is a rules supplement and its use requires the Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying Game Third Edition core rulebook.

Superman Returns sequel Michael Dougherty, co-writer of last year's Superman Returns says that the sequel will feature at east one villain drawn from the DC Comics franchise and maybe more than one. " Dougherty said that in all probability he and his Superman Returns writing partner Dan Harris will again work with Bryan Singer on the sequel. "We're talking," Dougherty said. "We're bouncing ideas around with Bryan. Big ideas. Action-packed ideas." Singer has said the next installment will be along the lines of the second Star Trek film, and Dougherty said the comparison is apt. "I think it's going to be a more action-oriented film," he said. "Again, the easy comparison to make was [X-Men] to X2, or Star Trek [The Motion Picture] to Star Trek II. I mean, I know that Bryan has said he's going to Wrath of Khan it, and by that he means, 'Let's take what we've already established—we've gotten that out of the way—and let's just make it shorter, tighter and more action-packed."
Stargate Atlantis According to Torri Higginson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir) cast members of SG-1 will appear “regularly” on Atlantis after SG-1 wraps up it’s final season. "All that will do is strengthen our show," Higginson said. "I think there will probably be some SG-1 fans who will say, 'No way, we'll never watch Stargate again. How dare you get rid of our favorite show?' But I think there will be a lot of others that enjoy both shows. Now all the writing will just be focused on one show, so I think it'll be interesting, too, to have the production focused on one show. That will definitely make it richer…" Atlantis will kick off the second half of its third season with the episode "The Return, Part II." Production on season four begins in March. Higginson said that she was surprised when the news broke that SG-1 would end its run after the current season, the show's 10th. "It was a shock, because it seems like SG-1 has been around forever and ever, and the fans are so amazingly loyal to SG-1," she said.
Iron Man Gwyneth Paltrow has been cast in Iron Man, the upcoming film based on the Marvel Comics character. Paltrow will play Virginia "Pepper" Potts, personal assistant to Tony Stark, an industrialist who develops an armored suit to battle bad guys. The cast of the Jon Favreau-directed film already includes Robert Downey Jr. and Terrence Howard. Production begins in March in Los Angeles, with an eye toward a release date in May of 2008.
John Carter of Mars Disney is optioning rights to the Edgar Rice Burroughs SF series John Carter of Mars as a potential franchise for the studio, Variety reported. Paramount had previously owned the rights to the epic, and had set the project up with Jon Favreau directing and Sean Daniel and Jim Jacks producing. But when Paramount's option expired, Disney entered into talks with the Burroughs estate. The story centers on a Civil War veteran who retreats into a cave to avoid capture by Apache Indians and finds himself transported to the planet of Barsoom and taken prisoner by 12-foot-tall green men. Burroughs wrote 11 volumes of Carter's adventures. Disney is hoping the film will launch its next major film franchise.
Is Magnum PI coming to the big screen? The rumors have started again about a movie based on the hit 80s tv show Magnum PI. British websites are reporting director Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball)has finished his redraft of the script and in a surprise move has selected much of the cast already. that Matthew McConaughey will play Magnum, Steve Zahn will be his friend Rick, Tyrese Gibson the chopper flying T.C., and William H. Macy as Higgins. McConaughey, Zahn and Macy worked together previously in Sahara (2005). The same websites say that it will be an “updated” Magnum but stick to the heart of the original. An example – Magnum and his friends will be veterans of the war in Iraq instead of Vietnam.
Sin City 2 Director Robert Rodriguez has been waiting for scheduling conflicts to clear so he could have Angelina Jolie in the movie. Rumors are that producers of Sin City 2 are tired of waiting for Jolie and are planning to give her role to Rachel Weisz. Reports are that Weisz in in talks currently for the role of Ava Lord in the story “A Dame To Die For”. If Weisz is cast then filming of Sin City 2 will start filming in early 2008. Reports also say that Rodriguez would still like to wait for Jolie but she may not be as interested as she was in the beginning and may not have the time available (rumors are that she is planning to spend time in her new home in New Orleans with her children) to film.
Highlander: The Source A trailer has been released for the next installment of the Highlander franchise titled Highlander: The Source. Adrian Paul reprises his role as immortal Duncan MacLeod. Hopeless and alone, MacLeod finds his way to a band of immortal companions, including his mysterious friend Methos, and a mortal, Watcher Joe Dawson. At the unemployment office, when Larry Daley (played by Ben Stiller) speaks to Debbie he says that he felt a connection with her when he first walked into her office. She says she did not feel any connection. Debbie is played by Ben Stiller's real-life mother actress/comedian, Anne Meara.
Primary filming was set to take place in Montreal, but Ben Stiller was reportedly unhappy about working there instead preferring Vancouver so filming was moved to Vancouver, British Columbia.
Alan Silvestri replaced John Ottman as score composer.
While filming, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson only had one day that they saw each other. Ben Stiller talked to a tooth pick for the Jedadiah scenes, then three months later Owen came in and filmed all of his parts.
Originally, Stephen Sommers was the director of the project. He eventually left due to creative differences.

| Castles & Crusades: Wicked Cauldron |
Travel to the far reaches of the Barren Wood is perilous in the best of times. These are not the best of times. Here, in the forest's western eves the trees are old, with tangled roots deep in the ground. Here too the fey still roam wild and free. Ancient ruins, many predating the Winter Dark, lay buried in cool deeps, their halls and towers abandoned to the wilderness and to time. But here too, in these dangerous environs, Unklar's folk have fled, making hidden holes in dark places. So it is with the small and the powerful.
The most famous of the ruins is the Old Ziggurat. Built by the Aenochians its many levels served the priests of that ancient empire some 1300 years ago. The Old Ziggurat lay empty for many years, but that has, so the tales relates, changed. The Bard Erikendous has come from the lonely paths of those western eves with stories of dark roots in that old place. Of creatures, of Unklar's servants, making their abode there. His tales, crafted into song, are of a Witch Queen. Few of these creatures lived in the days of darkness, but their were dreaded servants, foul and mean women who ate the flesh of their victims.
The ziggurat is a foul place and any would-be heroes willing to enter this abode and challenge the inhabitants must gird themselves for desperate battle against both the arcane and mundane. For here reside one of the Witch Queens of old and she has surrounded herself with the remnants of the Horned One's armies and the cohorts of those wrecked and ruined in the foul pits of Aufstrag.
For 3-5 characters, levels 3-5. The Adventure continues!
From the makers of the Castles & Crusades roleplaying game comes the third adventure for heroes and adventurers to battle ancient evils in a foul land.
City of Thieves. City of Adventure. City of the Black Bones. City of Seven-Score Thousand Smokes. The Imperishable City.
Lankhmar. It is here that the dynamic heroes of Fritz Leiber’s tales plied their trade and used as a base for their many adventures. Now you too can experience the thrill of adventure in a world populated by thieves, madmen and evil sorcerers.
Lankhmar provides everything you need to explore the world of Nehwon. Contained within are rules covering character creation, the unique creatures of the world and for black magic, against which the heroes Fafhrd and Grey Mouser were often in conflict. Packed full of detail it covers the city in detail with its major factions and individuals plus many of the locations found within the stories. The rest of the world is not neglected, from the frigid barrens of the Cold Waste to the stinking rat-worshipping city of Ilthmar and the grim, underground domain of Quarmall, the neighbouring lands are all covered allowing new heroes (or scoundrels) to seek their fortunes and create new legends beyond the city itself..
Follow in the footsteps of the two heroes and track down the fabulous treasures of half-forgotten myths and legends!
Welcome to Lankhmar!

Jackson VS New Line Cinema continues Robert Shaye – the chief executive officer of New Line Cinema – has said in recent interviews that as long as he is in charge New Line Cinema will not work with Peter Jackson on The Hobbit – or any other movie as long as he is in charge. "I do not want to make a movie with somebody who is suing me," says Shaye "It will never happen during my watch."
Jackson said in November 2006 that he and partner Fran Walsh would not be directing The Hobbit after the studio said it was moving ahead with The Hobbit without them. Jackson has said he will not discuss The Hobbit until a lawsuit against New Line over Rings accounting practices is settled.
As far as Shaye is concerned, Jackson is no longer welcome. Shaye, who was also an executive producer on the Rings trilogy, says: "He got a quarter of a billion dollars paid to him so far, justifiably, according to contract, completely right, and this guy, who already has received a quarter of a billion dollars, turns around without wanting to have a discussion with us and sues us and refuses to discuss it unless we just give in to his plan. I don't want to work with that guy anymore. Why would I? So the answer is he will never make any movie with New Line Cinema again while I'm still working for the company."
Shaye also said that many of the Rings trilogy actors "suddenly, because, I'm guessing, of Peter's complaint," have declined to participate in celebrating New Line's 40th anniversary. "I'm incredibly offended," he said. "I don't care about Peter Jackson anymore. He wants to have another $100 million or $50 million, whatever he's suing us for. He doesn't want to sit down and talk about it. He thinks that we owe him something after we've paid him over a quarter of a billion dollars. ... Cheers, Peter."
The New Line Cinema position against Jackson may not be the end of the story. MGM owns the distribution rights to The Hobbit. MGM has said through representatives that "the matter of Peter Jackson directing the Hobbit films is far from closed."
Mummy 3 Rob Cohen (Stealth) is in talks with Universal Pictures to direct The Mummy 3 taking over from Stephen Sommers (who direc. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have had discussions about returning (but have not committed yet). Very little has been disclosed about the story of The Mummy 3 by writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (TV's Smallville), but the movie has been in active development for about a year. Mummy 3 will be released in the summer of 2008.
SpongeBob SquarePants theme park Nickelodeon has agreed to a deal to set up a 15,000 square-meter SpongeBob SquarePants adventure park in Germany where its most popular characters will be brought to life. "Nickland" will be situated at Movie Park Germany, close to Dortmund in western Germany, and is set to open in April, Nickelodeon and Movie Park Germany said in a statement on 9 January. The park is being planned to appeal to both children and adult fans of the show. One of the first attractions will be a romp through the undersea world of SpongeBob, whose character in the TV show lives in the Pacific Ocean in a pineapple with his pet snail Gary.
Avatar James Cameron is planning to direct "Avatar," his first dramatic feature since the Oscar-winning "Titanic" in 1997. The writer/director will start virtual photography on the sci-fi epic in April, followed by live-action work in August 2007. It will be shot in a new digital 3-D format for release in 3-D with a release date of Summer 2009.
"I've been the busiest unemployed director in Hollywood," according to Cameron (who also wrote the screenplay for Avatar). "We're going to blow you to the back wall of the theater in a way you haven't seen for a long time. My goal is to rekindle those amazing mystical moments my generation felt when we first saw '2001: A Space Odyssey,' or the next generation's 'Star Wars.' It took me 10 years to find something hard enough to be interesting."
The film centers on a wounded ex-Marine who is unwillingly sent to settle and exploit the faraway planet Pandora. He gets caught up in a battle for survival by the planet's inhabitants, called Na'vis, and falls in love with one of them.
For "Avatar," Cameron will use performance-capture techniques similar to those used by such films as "Superman Returns" and "King Kong" as well as a real-time virtual camera system, which will blend the actors' performances and CG performances with real sets, miniatures and CG environments. With the virtual camera, the director will be able to look through an eyepiece and see his characters in their virtual world. Visual photography will be done by Weta Digital. Cameron plans the movie to be 60% CGI and 40% digital.
Tin Man The SCI FI Channel has cast Alan Cumming (X-Men 2) in its upcoming six-hour original miniseries tentatively titled Tin Man, an SF fantasy reimagining of The Wizard of Oz. The miniseries, from RHI Entertainment, is slated to begin production in Vancouver, B.C., this spring and premiere in December.
Cumming will play Glitch, one of a motley assortment of characters trapped in the Outer Zone, or O.Z.
The SCI FI channel described Tin Man as "a sometimes psychedelic, often twisted and always outrageous take" on L. Frank Baum's classic fantasy tale. In it, a young woman is plucked from her humdrum life and thrust into the Outer Zone, a fantastical realm filled with wonder and oppressed by dark magic. Her perilous journey begins on the fabled Old Road that leads to a wizard known as the Mystic Man. Along the way, she is joined by Glitch, an odd man missing half his brain; Raw, a quiet and powerful wolverine-like creature longing for inner courage; and Cain, a heroic former police officer (known in the O.Z. as tin men) seeking vengeance for his scarred heart.
Tin Man will be executive-produced by Robert Halmi Sr. and Robert Halmi Jr. Co-writers Steven Long Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle (The Pretender) will also executive-produce.
This week’s highlight is Children of Men. The plot: In 2027, in a chaotic world in which humans can no longer procreate, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea, where her child's birth may help scientists save the future of humankind.
One scene contains a car driving past a heavily guarded gate and over a bridge towards what is in fact Batterseas Power Station. Between the four smoke stacks of the power station can be seen a floating pig, a reference to the cover image of the Pink Floyd album "Animals".
Emma Watson was offered the role of Kee but turned it down due to scheduling conflicts.
After seeing Charlie Hunnam's performance in Cold Mountain Alfonso Cuaron called him up and offered him the role of Patric.
On entering Battersea Power Station, Owen is driven down a ramp that appears to be the Tate Modern, but was actually a built set modeled after the actual space in the Tate Modern.
Halfway through this film, when Owen is walking down the ramp on Battersea Power Station, a stenciled image can be seen on a wall of two policemen kissing. This image was created by "Banksy" a British "guerilla artist" who specializes in this type of work. There are also other works of this artist in the film, one of them is a child looking down a shop, in stencil, as well.
Theo is seen wearing a London 2012 Olympics fleece in the Bexhill tower block scene.
Of the many "modified" cars used in the movie, notable examples are the Fiat Multipla & Renault Avantime. The car that Jasper (Michael Caine) drives is an old Citroën CX with some plastic add-ons in the front and back. That car production finished in 1990. Other cars in the movie are Renault Modus, Renault Avantime and Fiat Multipla.
For the first week of release at Leicester Square, London, there was a mistake on the cinema marquee, declaring the film title to be "Children of Me".
Michael Caine's character plays an award winning political cartoonist. In his house you can see some of his cartoons in the background, these are drawn by Steve Bell, an award winning political cartoonist for The Guardian newspaper.
The yellow car Theo drives to and from Jasper's house is based on a Citroen CX Break, which started production in 1974. The interior and part of the exterior of the car has been modified to suit the style and chronology of the film.
When Miriam is taken off the bus in the refugee camp you can hear the song "Arbeit Macht Frei" by The Libertines. "Arbeit macht frei" (meaning "Work shall set you free") was written above the entrance of a number of Nazi concentration camps.
When Theo has agreed to help the Fishes by getting transit papers for Kee and follows an agent to what turns out to be a meeting with Julian on a Double Decker Bus, the bus he chases and presumably boards is a thinly disguised MCW Metrobus, dating from circa 1982, with characteristic boxy, old-fashioned appearance. However, when the scene cuts to the bus interior, it is that of a Wrightbus Gemini model, dating from 2003 or later - this model is much curvier in shape than the Metrobus. Once Julian and Theo leave the bus it is the “modern” version that passes them.
When Kee and Theo leave the block of flats during the battle, most of the soldiers are using the SA80A1. This version of the rifle would have been completely phased out by the time the film is set, as it has been already by the SA80A2.
When Theo drives down the Mall, the plane trees are all in full leaf as if it were summer. However, when he is driving through the countryside all the oak trees have no leaves, suggesting a different season from London.
When Kee and Theo leave the block of flats during the battle, most of the soldiers are using the SA80A1. This version of the rifle would have been completely phased out by the time the film is set, as it has been already by the SA80A2.
In the barn when Kee shows Theo she is pregnant she covers her breasts with her left hand and places her right hand on her underwear. It then cuts to Theo's face, when it cuts back to Kee her hands have changed, she has her right hand covering and her left hand on her underwear.
As the bus takes the main characters to the Bexhill refugee camp, we see Bexhill from a hill. In reality, Bexhill and the surrounding area are completely flat.
In the Bexhill detention centre, a Transport for London logo is on a former bus stop. Bexhill is located in East Sussex, on the south coast of England, more than 75 miles from Transport for London service area.
When Theo first visits his friend Jasper's place, he sits on a sofa next to a ginger cat. The cat is lying in a different position after almost every shot.
When Theo enters the building to find and rescue Kee from the shooting, earplugs can be seen as he climbs the stairs.
When Theo takes the cup of coffee in the coffee shop, the cup is empty.
When the car is being chased in reverse, blood spatters all over the windshield of the car and the roof. The next time we see the windshield, the blood is gone.

"Battlestar Galactica is the kind of science-fiction that we do best, where the drama and characters are more important than the guns and the gadgets. The very survival of the human race is at stake in the series, and exploring the story possibilities in the setting can make for some very exciting games."
Like the series, the role-playing game is set in space, and will focus on the challenges of survival in exceedingly trying times and the difficult choices that must be made. The game will use the same system as the best-selling and award-winning Serenity game, also produced by Margaret Weis Productions. The game book will be a full-color hardcover book featuring still images from the series, as well as original artwork. It will provide rules for play, character creation and information about the ship and crew of Galactica as well as the other main characters from the show.
A quick-start guide will be released in early 2007, with the core product premiering in the spring. Additional products will soon follow. The entire line will be supported by an interactive Web site, the company said.
More Japanese horror remakes coming Roy Lee, who produced the English-language remakes of Japanese horror films The Ring and The Grudge, has more than a dozen films in development next year that will also be based on Asian movies. Lee has produced seven remakes so far, including Dark Water, The Lake House and The Departed.
Among the films Lee is producing is Host, which holds the all-time record for biggest box office in Korea. Lee says he is currently trying to figure out a way to remove the movie’s underlying anti-American stance, while making it more than a generic monster movie. Lee's other upcoming projects include The Invasion—starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig—The Eye, Ikiru, Oldboy and a third installment in the Ring franchise.
Meg delayed Meg, the film version of the Steve Alten novel about a giant prehistoric shark, is stalled at New Line after nine years in development. New Line has had the rights to the book since last year, and was planning to release a film in 2006 with a budget of $75 million. But when the budget estimate came in at $150 million, the studio put the project on hold in order to come up with ways to scale it back.
The CGI work for Meg would itself cost $40 million to $70 million. Aside from aquatic challenges (CGI waves, thousands of species of fish), the giant shark attacks ships and a helicopter. Now, the film is looking to shoot this spring for a summer 2008 release, at the earliest.
Alten is counting on the film to generate publicity for the fourth book in his Meg series, Meg 4: Hell's Aquarium, and does not plan to finish it until the film is greenlit.
Stardust Ian McKellen will provide the voice of the narrator in Matthew Vaughn's romantic fantasy Stardust, based on the book by Neil Gaiman. McKellen joins a cast which already includes Claire Danes, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Charlie Cox. McKellen is recording his part in Los Angeles during the post-production stage of the film, which wrapped production in the fall.
The film centers on a young man who promises his beloved that he will retrieve a fallen star (played by Danes) and ventures into the faerie realm, where he encounters witches, goblins, gnomes, talking animals and evil trees. Stardust opens 27 July 2007.
Indiana Jones IV Indiana Jones IV will start filming in June 2007 according to producer George Lucas. Harrison Ford has been confirmed as reprising his role as Indiana Jones. Steven Spielberg - who will direct the film - said: "George, Harrison and I are all very excited. "We feel that the script was well worth the wait. We hope it delivers everything you'd expect from our history with Indiana Jones." The film is to be released May 2008.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie Cartoon Network's animated series Aqua Teen Hunger Force will be the first original show of the channel's late-night Adult Swim programming block to be turned into a feature film. The 86-minute film was written, produced and directed by co-creators Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis.
The film centers on the origins of Hunger Force characters Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake and an immortal piece of exercise equipment threatening the balance of galactic peace. "It was too big a story to do in 11 minutes," Willis told Variety. "It's based on our fear of exercise equipment." Maiellaro and Willis will be voicing several parts each, and several members of the TV cast will be reprising their roles. The film also features cameo voices provided by Bruce Campbell and Neil Peart of the band Rush
This week’s movie highlight is Casino Royale (2006). It is the highest grossing Bond movie of the franchise.
A published report by BSkyB in early 2003 indicated that Sean Connery was among those being considered to direct the film.
Before Daniel Craig was officially announced to play James Bond there were several other actors considered for the part. Producer Michael G. Wilson said that they looked over 200 actors searching for the right one. Some of them were Julian McMahon, Hrithik Roshan, Dominic West and Gerard Butler. Most of them were deemed not appropriate to fit the role, while some others were nothing but media speculation. Goran Visnjic, Sam Worthington, Alex O'Lachlan and Rupert Friend were also considered, while Henry Cavill almost got the part but was considered too young to play it.
The license plate number of the Rover that James Bond crashes in the car park was 161138.

In 2004 Quentin Tarantino had suggested making a version of "Casino Royale" with Pierce Brosnan. Tarantino and Brosnan spoke publicly about this proposed project. When Brosnan was not rehired as Bond, Tarantino very publicly berated the producers and refused to have anything more to do with the project even though he was never attached to the picture at any time.

The interiors of the Venetian sinking house were a rig built at the Paddock Tank at Pinewood Studios and it could be immersed in nineteen feet of water. It weighed 90 tons and used a mixture of hydraulics and electronics. A computer controlled the hydraulic valves as well as a third scale model of the building which was used for shooting exteriors. Water was pushed upwards by banks of compressors controlled by technicians.

In the Shower scene, Vesper was originally scripted to be wearing nothing but her underwear. Daniel Craig argued that Vesper would not have stopped to take her clothes off, and the scene was changed.
The location used in the Bahamas as the Madagascar Construction site was an abandoned hotel site at Coral Harbour that was under construction 30 years ago. It was used to film hotel rooms for the 1965 James Bond movie Thunderball (1965) and it was also used for the 1977 Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) as a camera platform with models and workshops. It is now part of a military base.
The barrel roll stunt in the Aston Martin DBS broke the world record for the most barrel rolls assisted by a cannon. Originally, the racing specifications of the DBS meant that a standard ramp would not be sufficient to get the car to roll, so the special effects team were called in to install a air-powered cannon behind the drivers seat. This allowed the car to complete seven full rolls.
Casino Royal is the first Bond film since The Living Daylights (1987) that based on an original Ian Fleming short story or novel title.

President John F. Kennedy became an avid James Bond fan after reading Ian Fleming's novel "Casino Royale".
Authorities in Venice granted producers permission to sail James Bond's yacht, called Spirit 54, along the Grand Canal between the Accademia and Rialto bridges. No-one can remember exactly the last time a pleasure yacht sailed in the Grand Canal, but it's believed to have been several centuries ago.
This is the first film in the 44 years of the James Bond series where it rains.
Poker playing was a common pastime amongst cast and crew on the set, even after production had wrapped. This however is not new for a James Bond movie. Roger Moore and Albert R. Broccoli during breaks in filming played and bet on backgammon. Many of the James Bond movies have been known to have cast and crew participate in some high-stakes gambling.
Daniel Craig is the first actor to be under the age of forty and play James Bond since George Lazenby in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969).
One week after filming was completed, the 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios burnt down on 30 July 2006. This was the second time this had happened, the first being before filming on A View to a Kill (1985). The filmmakers had just finished using the stage for filming interiors set in Venice for the movie.
In 1999 Sony paid MGM $5 million to settle the $40 million lawsuit that MGM had brought against Sony over the Bond rights. The lawsuit was filed because of Sony's intentions to remake Casino Royale. In the settlement Sony agreed to hand over all of its rights to the Bond character and Casino Royale. In an ironic twist of fate, Sony bought MGM in 2005, and in 2006, released a new serious adaptation of Casino Royale.
Many of the other actors in the running for Bond didn't even know they didn't get the job until they saw the TV broadcast of Daniel Craig accepting the offer.
Among the actresses considered for the role of Vesper Lynd were Aishwarya Rai, Naomi Watts, Charlize Theron, Thandie Newton, Angelina Jolie, Rachel McAdams, Caterina Murino, Sienna Miller, Rose Byrne, Rachael Stirling, Natasha Henstridge, Jessica Simpson, Scarlett Johansson and Vera Farmiga.

Right before he passes out he sees the wire is not connected. Vesper appears and notices the wire is not connected. She connects the wire and shocks Bond. The scene cuts back and forth. After this cut back you can still see the wire has not been connected. Then the scene cuts back and forth again and this time the wire is in fact connected.
When the scene on the train begins a caption shows that the location is Macedonia. After that a shot of the train passing through a station shows the train station as being named Chur Ost. Chur is in Switzerland, not Macedonia.
When Bond is suffering from Digitalis poisoning, his heart rate is shown as 135 BPM, however, a symptom of Digitalis poisoning is low pulse rate.
When Bond is watching the Ocean Club security video from the archive, the time display shows that the footage was supposedly recorded at around seven o'clock in the evening, but the shadows in the shot show that it is clearly much closer to noon.
During the chase at the beginning of the film, when Bond goes on his first assignment, his gun can sometimes be seen on the back of his right hip, then it disappears, then reappears when he needs it.

Black Christmas Christian groups are furious and calling for people not to see Black Christmas-the remake of the 1974 cult movie of the same name. The reason - they find the slasher movie "offensive." The Glen Morgan-directed film stars Oliver Hudson, Katie Cassidy, Lacey Chabert and Michelle Trachtenberg. It focuses on a group of college students who battle a murderer over the Christmas holidays. The movie will be released on Christmas Day (in US theaters), much to the horror and dismay of many Christian groups. Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, says, "To have a movie that emphasizes murder and mayhem at Christmas, a time of celebration and joy around the world seems to be ill founded." Jennifer Giroux, co-founder of Operation Just Say Merry Christmas, adds, "The use of religious music 'Silent Night' and the nativity set on the front porch in one scene are insensitive to Christians. It's not enough to ignore and omit Christmas, but now it has to be offended, insulted and desecrated. Our most sacred holiday, actually a holy day, is being assaulted."
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows J.K. Rowling announced on 21 December that the title of her upcoming seventh (and final Harry Potter book) will be “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”, according to her British publisher, Bloomsbury. The publication date has not been set but it is expected in 2007. On her official Web site, Rowling wrote about her progress on the book, with a hint that at least two characters will die but will not comment on the rumor that one of the characters will be Harry Potter.
She also said that the boy wizard has been invading her dreams of late. "For years now, people have asked me whether I ever dream that I am 'in' Harry's world," she wrote. "The answer was 'no' until a few nights ago when I had an epic dream in which I was, simultaneously, Harry and the narrator."
TMNT Sarah Michelle Gellar has joined the cast of TMNT, Warner Brothers' upcoming computer-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. She will play April, the human researcher who serves as the Turtles' tech-services worker and mother figure. Fantastic Four's Chris Evans, meanwhile, will voice the hockey-stick-swinging Casey Jones, and Clerks filmmaker Kevin Smith also voices a cameo as a greasy-spoon chef. First-time feature writer/director Kevin Munroe is behind the film, which will also feature the voice of Patrick Stewart as Max Winters, a tech industrialist who is amassing an army of monsters in the city. Picking up where the previous live-action movies left off, Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael reunite to fight him.
Tarzan Guillermo del Toro has been confirmed as the director for a new movie version of the Tarzan legend. Rumors are that he has decided to put “At The Mountains of Madness” (H.P. Lovecraft) on hold until after the Tarzan movie has been made.
"I'd love to create a new version that is still a family movie, but as edgy as I can make it," says Del Toro,. "There are strong themes of survival of a defenseless child left behind in the most hostile environment." He has also hinted that it will be based more on the original stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs and less on the versions that have been released so far.
Fantastic Four 2 trailer The trailer has been released for Fantastic Four 2. The description:
It starts at the wedding of Sue and Reed. Suddenly a silver streak splits through the sky. Johnny Storm “flames on” and follow the object. There is a high speed chase as Johnny Storm tries to catch up to what turns out to be the Silver Surfer. The Surfer first to elude Johnny by using a power to phase through solid objects such as buildings and vehicles. When that finally fails the Surfer suddenly turns, grabs Johnny by the neck then flies them both to the outer reaches of the atmosphere where the lack of oxygen snuffs out Johnny's flame. The Surfer then releases Johnny, letting him plummet to the Earth.
Tomb Raider 3 Word is that Angelina Jolie has changed her mind and (in theory) has agreed to play Lara Croft in a third Tomb Raider movie. Paramount has chosen a screenwriter but not very much has been discussed about the possible plot yet. Rumors are that the studio is trying to tone down the “camp” and make it more of an action-adventure style movie. Tomb Raider 2 did not do very well in the theaters but critics said it was “marginally better” than the first (mostly due to Gerard Butler and Angelina Jolie).
This week’s request is not quite a holiday movie but it fits in with the holiday theme. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. There is a sequel in the process of being filmed.
The movie had two fake working titles: "The Hundred Year Winter" and "Paravel". Signs in Auckland which directed extras and crew to the sets had "Paravel" written on them.
When the children listen to a news report on the radio, in Professor Kirke's house, the voice belongs to Douglas Gresham, who is C.S. Lewis's stepson, and co-producer of the film. C.S. Lewis, author of the original novel, delivered radio addresses over the BBC during World War II.
After the initial credits begin (since many people leave the theatre as soon as the credits appear, they miss this), there is an additional short scene between Professor Kirke and Lucy, that takes place near the wardrobe.
In the scene where Edmund and Lucy go through the wardrobe, they needed a shot of Edmund's feet walking through the wardrobe. Since Skandar Keynes (Edmund) was gone for the day, Georgie Henley (Lucy) put on Edmund's clothes from the waist down and portrayed his feet for this one shot.
Walden has optioned the entire seven-part "Chronicles of Narnia" fantasy book series for film development.
The Director, Andrew Adamson, who himself is from West Auckland, along with some of his production crew, were given a traditional Maori welcome onto a Maori meeting house near the West Auckland studios. This was done as a sign of respect to the local tribe of West Auckland whose lands will be used for filming locations.
When placing ads in "The New Zealand Herald" for extras, the call was put out for people under 5ft and over 6ft. Extras calls were made in the NZ main cities of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch over a period of two weeks.
The makers asked for permission to bring in 12 reindeer to New Zealand to pull the Ice Queen's sled. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry denied, citing the potentially deadly Q fever from which the North American reindeer population suffers as the reason. However, eight wolves were allowed in for filming in Auckland.
Tilda Swinton had not read the book prior to filming.
Co-producer Douglas Gresham is the stepson of C.S. Lewis, author of the novel upon which the film is based.
Actress Georgie Henley's reaction to the Narnia forest is genuine. She was excited to begin with so the director had her blindfolded and began shooting when the blindfold was removed. This was also done to get a "real" reaction.
The motor power for the Pevensies' evacuation train was GWR 7802 Bradley Manor, one of the former Great Western Railway's Manor-class steam locomotives. Nine out of the thirty Manor-class locomotives built survive today.
The movie was shot in chronological order.
There are already bites in the Turkish Delight before Edmund eats one.
When Lucy first enters Narnia and meets Mr. Tumnus she hides behind the lamp. When she comes out from behind it she has snow up the front of her dress to her waist, in the next shot she only has snow at the hem of her dress.
The witch slaps Edmund on the right side of his face, but when he returns to Aslan's Camp the resulting bruise is on the left side
The position of Mr. Tumnus's dropped packages on the ground.
When the children are playing cricket on the lawn, they are clearly using a brand new shiny cricket ball which goes through the window. When the professor shows it to them later it is battered.
When Lucy first arrives in Narnia, and sees the lamp post; she touches it with one hand, but when she hears Mr. Tumnus coming, she's touching the post with the other hand.
Near the end of the movie, Lucy gives Edmund the potion that is able to heal any wound. His major injuries are healed, but the cuts on his lip and face remain.
When Edmund first enters Narnia and falls on the ground, his hair is flared out when he is lying in the snow, but perfect in the next shot as he begins to stand up.
When the beavers and the Penvesies trek along the ice river, the beavers drag their tails along through the snow but do not leave tracks.
When Mrs. MacReady meets the Pevensie children at the train station, the reflector screen is reflected in the lenses of her glasses, as she looks down when she speaks to them. It is also visible when the children first arrive at the house, when Mrs. MacReady says, "There shall be no disturbing of the professor".
When the four children are waiting for Mrs. Macready to pick them up, a car drives by leaving tire tracks in the dirt road. When the horse drawn cart comes up the road towards them, the car tracks have vanished.

Nightmare Detective Nightmare Detective, the latest supernatural thriller from Japan, has been picked up by the Weinstein Co. for distribution in North America. In a deal first set in motion at November's American Film Market, Arclight Films subsidiary Easternlight Films has announced that it has sold the rights to Nightmare Detective for an undisclosed fee after the movie screened at the Pusan and Rome film festivals.
Written and directed by Shinya Tsukamoto and starring Ryuhei Matsuda, Masanobu Ando and singer Hitomi, the movie is the tale of a female detective investigating a pair of suicides mysteriously connected by the fact that both victims dialed zero on their mobile phones just seconds before they died.
The detective tracks down a man with the power to enter people's dreams, a device that enables Tsukamoto to put his idiosyncratic filming styles to good use.
The Passengers Anne Hathaway will star in Passengers, a supernatural thriller being produced and financed by Mandate Pictures. Rodrigo Garcia is directing the movie, which Columbia Pictures will release domestically.
The film centers on a grief counselor (Hathaway) who helps six plane crash survivors and develops a special connection with one of them. When the survivors begin to disappear mysteriously, she suspects a conspiracy and becomes determined to uncover the truth. Ronnie Christensen wrote the script.
Judd Payne and Matthew Rhodes of Persistent Entertainment are producing, along with Keri Selig. Mandate's Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane are executive-producing with Mockingbird Pictures' Julie Lynn. Production is set to begin early next year.

They have the right sound, right look and a huge fanbase, making them the perfect choice."
Star Trek XI Matt Damon says in interviews that he's open to assuming the role of Capt. James T. Kirk in the proposed 11th Star Trek movie, but denied previous rumors that he is already in line for the role (which was originated by William Shatner). "If the script was good, I'd do it," Damon said. "I think J.J. Abrams or somebody said that at a press junket or something, and it got picked up by the media and Star Trek fans."
If Damon were to win the role of Kirk, he would become the first actor to play the character since Shatner played him in the original 1960s Trek and its subsequent spinoff movies.
The Backwoods Lionsgate has picked up U.S. rights to the Gary Oldman-led thriller "The Backwoods".
The feature debut of Spanish helmer Koldo Serra, the English-language drama is set in Basque country in 1978. The plot: an English couple Lucy (Virginie Ledoyen) and Norman (Paddy Considine) are going through a difficult patch in their relationship, and so decide to spend the summer in the house that their friends Paul (Gary Oldman) and his wife Isabel (Aitana Sanchez-Gijón) have bought in the north of Spain. Hidden away in the middle of a forest, and very much off the beaten track, the house seems ideal for some peaceful holidays.
The cultural differences with the locals lead by Paco (Lluis Homar) and an accidental discovery in an abandoned house in the middle of the forest will start a strong whirpool of violence between them and local villagers.
Zoolander sequel Ben Stiller has revealed he is planning a Zoolander sequel and confirmed he is planning the film with Owen Wilson. Stiller says he hopes to get the original cast back for the film - but it may be difficult. He said: "It's almost more difficult to work together as everybody has gotten successful. Everybody is doing their own thing, and it's sometimes hard to get together." The first movie starred Owen Wilson, Ben's wife Christine Taylor, Ben's dad Jerry Stiller, Will Ferrell, and Milla Jovovich.
The Prince Intrepid Pictures has purchased Dave Kalstein's screenplay "The Prince," a psychological thriller centering on a prep school student framed as a terrorist who seeks revenge on his former classmates.
This modern-day 'Count of Monte Cristo' has the title character falsely charged with a planned Columbine High School-style attack, he is sent to prison and re-emerges among his old cohorts with a new identity.
He plays on their fears and ambition in his quest for justice.
Keeping with the holiday theme this week’s reader request is Elf. The plot: After inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the North Pole is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity.
Will Ferrell walked down the entire Lincoln Tunnel in full costume while filming this movie. Several accidents happened because so many people were staring at him.
Peter Billingsley, the child actor who starred as Ralphie in "A Christmas Story" (1983), has a minor part as a supervisor elf in the North Pole toy making scenes.
Director Jon Favreau is the doctor and provided the voice of the narwhal.
The "amateur footage" of Buddy walking around Central Park shown on the newscast spoofs the famous Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film.
Jim Carrey was originally supposed to play the part of Buddy.
In the photograph featuring Buddy's parents, production assistant Will Reichel posed as the young James Caan. The actual face of the younger Caan was then digitally inserted over Reichel's body.
The outside of Gimbel’s is a digitally altered view of the 34th St. Macy's, a reference to Miracle on 34th Street (1947). Gimbel’s was Macy's main competition but it is now closed.
The Leon the Snowman character is modeled after the Sam the Snowman character from Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
The Elf costumes were also modeled after the Elves in Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Terry Zwigoff was offered a chance to direct the film, but turned it down.
One of the skyscrapers built by Buddy in Gimbel’s is the Liberty One building in Philadelphia. In real life, Gimbel’s was a Philadelphia-based department store.
When she first meets Buddy, Jovie asks, "Did Crumpet put you up to this?" Crumpet is the name David Sedaris chose for his elf in "The Santaland Diaries", a collection of stories inspired from his time spent as an elf in a department store. David Sedaris's sister, Amy Sedaris, also appears in the film as James Caan's assistant, Deb.
Near the end, when Santa is showing Michael his nice list, all of the people on Santa's list worked on the movie: Victoria Down (key makeup artist) wants an English riding saddle with leathers and a crop; Drew Davidson (chief lighting technician, as Andrew Davidson) wants Rock-em Sock-em robots; Andreas Nieman (assistant property master, as Andy Nieman) wants a complete set of titanium drivers and a new golf glove; Nathan Tichenor (co-production coordinator) wants an Apple iBook with 1 gig hard drive and a built-in CD burner; Michael Hobbs is a character in the movie; Jimmy Miller (executive producer) wants a Hot Wheels turbo ultra race track with six cars, power launcher and track cleaner and Penny Gibbs (unit production manager) wants an Old MacDonald Farm Kit with Battery Operated Tractor and a Remote Controlled Cow-Tipper.
The scene where the fake Santa is chasing Buddy had to be done in one take because it was too hard to rebuild everything.
When Jovie is first seen singing in the shower, her body stocking is visible.
When Emily is eating the breakfast that Buddy made her, an utensil switches between being in the bowl to on the table between shots.
When Buddy chases Michael down the street from the school, a crew member in a yellow hat can be seen trying to duck back behind a doorway of a house on the street.
When Buddy discovers Santa in Central Park, a tether holding the lead reindeer in place is plainly visible, running from his harness off the left-hand side of the screen.
Lights are visible in the office and mailroom scenes.
After Miles Finch attacks Buddy, he leaves the boardroom and slams the door. As he does so, a picture falls off the wall, but it is back in place in the next shot.
During the boardroom meeting with Miles Finch, a chair repeatedly moves between shots.
The position of the blue book in the executive's hand behind Buddy when he first meets and sings for his father changes repeatedly between shots.
In the scene in Central Park when Santa is trying to fix his sleigh, the trap door is open but when Michael comes to help Santa, Santa asks Michael to open the trap door for him.
When Walter and Buddy are in the "tickle fight" on the bed, there is a red piece of yarn or fluff that moves around Walter's shirt from shot to shot.
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel's concert in Central Park was in 1981, not 1985 as the news anchor says when talking about the "Central Park Rangers".
When Walter and Emily are talking in their room, and Walter is lying on the bed, his legs change position between shots.
When Buddy is in the elf classroom, the platform on which Buddy's desk is sitting to aid in forced perspective is visible at the bottom of the screen.
When Buddy and Michael take cover behind the snow bank during the snowball fight, rips in Buddy's tights can be seen in his inner thigh area during one shot, but not in the others.
When Buddy goes to work with his dad, he has a coat on when greeting the secretary, but it has disappeared in the next shot.
When Buddy is at the apartment having dinner with the family, the coke bottle is near Michael's right hand. When Buddy goes to drink the coke it is right next to him. He never asks for the coke to be passed.

"I've watched you ever since the day I was made. Watched you love, watched you laugh, watched you kill and die. You're perfect, even though you don't know it. Perfectly wonderful. Perfectly awful. Perfectly human. I've been watching, trying to figure you out. Trying to figure out how to be you. I know more about you than you do. I know more about you than I do about myself." —The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter, Galateid
It’s A Cold World The Pilgrimage is a long and lonely road, but every Promethean must walk it. The Created do not come into the world knowing what steps to take upon this road. They must learn from others of their kind, from their creators and from painful experience. Over time, they might unlock the secrets of their humours, changing their bodies to better survive a world that shuns them. But every discovery leads only to further uncertainty, and all the Created can do is press on, led by the promise of Mortality.

"Child, we do not hate you for being born who you are. Each of us was born of wolf and man, and marked by the moon harlot with her silver when the change came on us. We cannot hate you because you were born of the blood that murdered our Father, for many among us were born of that blood as well.
"But you have heard our truth, and you reject it. You have felt the wrath of the spirits, and you do not abase yourselves before them. You wear the silver brands of the slave with honor, rather than purging them from you with flame.
"We do not hate the ignorant child. But you are grown, and you know, and you still do not kneel. And for that - you will burn." —Hunter's Voice, Fire-Touched

• An intensive treatment of the society of the Pure, from their legends and history to modern-day practices of indoctrination and penance

The Pure is a 192 page hardcover supplement for the World of Darkness game Werewolf: The Forsaken.
In 1945, unlikely allies toppled Hitler's war machine, while humanity's most devastating weapons forced the Japanese Empire to its knees in a storm of fire. Where once there stood many great powers, there then stood only two. The world had scant months to sigh its collective relief before a new conflict threatened. Unlike the titanic struggles of the preceding decades, this conflict would be waged not primarily by soldiers and tanks, but by spies and politicians, scientists and intellectuals, artists and traitors.
Twilight Struggle is a two-player game simulating the forty-five year dance of intrigue, prestige, and occasional flares of warfare between the Soviet Union and the United States. The entire world is the stage on which these two titans fight to make the world safe for their own ideologies and ways of life. The game begins amidst the ruins of Europe as the two new "superpowers" scramble over the wreckage of the Second World War, and ends in 1989, when only the United States remained standing.
Twilight Struggle inherits its fundamental systems from the card-driven classics We the People and Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage. It is a quick-playing, low-complexity game in that tradition. The game map is a world map of the period, whereon players move units and exert influence in attempts to gain allies and control for their superpower. As with GMT's other card-driven games, decision-making is a challenge; how to best use one's cards and units given consistently limited resources?
Twilight Struggle's Event cards add detail and flavor to the game. They cover a vast array of historical happenings, from the Arab- Israeli conflicts of 1948 and 1967, to Vietnam and the U.S. peace movement, to the Cuban Missile Crisis and other such incidents that brought the world to the brink of nuclear annihilation. Subsystems capture the prestige-laden Space Race as well as nuclear tensions, with the possibility of game-ending nuclear war.
Twilight Struggle won the Charles S. Roberts award for Best Modern Era Boardgame for 2005.
Winner of the 2006 International Gamers Award and the 2006 BoardGameGeek Golden Geek awards for both Best Wargame and Best 2 Player game.

The Duel Director Martin Scorsese plans to bring medieval France to the big screen for a film adaptation of Eric Jager's novel, "The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal and Trial by Combat in Medieval France."
"The Duel" will focus on the last official duel sanctioned by the French government in 1386. It is based on the true story of a knight, a squire and a lady as it unfolds during the devastating Hundred Years War between France and England. Enemy troops pillage, madness haunts the French court, the Great Schism splits the Church and plague ravishes the land.
He’s back… Jet Li has decided to continue to do action movies (after saying he would not be in a “martial arts” style movie again). He has signed (along with Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro) to star is Peter Ho-Shun Chan’s Ci Ma (translated: This Violent Land). Set during the country’s Qing Dynasty, it is the story of three blood brothers struggling as their kingdom is torn apart by war and political change. The script will be based on The Assassination Of Ma, which follows the slaughter of a general named Ma Xinyi. The story was made into a movie in 1973 as “The Blood Brothers”.
"We want to produce a new take on the story based on human nature. For many years, I've dreamt about making a war movie, and this is a new challenge for me,” according to Chan. “We're very excited and keen to get started.”
Deadman Gary Dauberman will co-write the screenplay for producer Guillermo del Toro on the big screen adaptation of "Deadman" based on the DC comic book. Del Toro is looking to possibly direct the feature as well. The comic book told of a murdered circus acrobat who has the power to possesses the living in order to find his killer and help the innocent.
Del Toro is producing the film along with Angry Film' Don Murphy and Susan Montford
Starship Troopers 3 Reports are that Sony will be producing a third Starship Troopers movie. “Looks like - fingers crossed - Sony is moving forward," says Ed Neumeier, who will write & direct the film. "Plans are afoot to shoot next year. Casper Van Dien will be back as Colonel John Rico. There'll be a new bug or two. Also draft riots. Religion makes a comeback. And the Federation has a new weapon." The original 1997 film starred Casper Van Dien and Denise Richards. A sequel was released in 2004 straight to DVD.
Angels and Demons Akiva Goldsman ("A Beautiful Mind," "The Da Vinci Code") is receiving $4 million dollars to write a screenplay based on Dan Brown's "Angels and Demons" novel. This novel is the first to use the character of Robert Langdon, who was played by Tom Hanks in "The Da Vinci Code.” The movie will be a prequel to The DaVinci Code. Goldsman will be screenwriter and producer for the film, which is being targeted for 12 December 2008. There is no word yet on whether director Ron Howard or star Tom Hanks will return for the prequel.
"Angels and Demons" has professor Robert Langdon investigating a series of murders which lead to the Vatican and the Illuminati society.
More Hobbit rumors The “will he or will he not” rumors are still spreading about Peter Jackson and The Hobbit. The latest rumor says that Sam Raimi (Spiderman, Spiderman 2) will be asked by New Line Cinemas to direct. The thought process by New Line (according to rumors) is that Raimi has enough of a fan following to not immediately cause fan backlash and that the same fans who like his movies are also fans of The Hobbit. Nothing has been set in stone yet.
Beverly Hills Cop 4 Eddie Murphy will be back as Axel Foley. Reports are Paramount Pictures and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura will be working on "Beverly Hills Cop 4." The original film was released in 1984 followed by a sequel 1987. Both films grossed more than $380 million dollars domestically but the franchise ran into trouble with the third film, which grossed only $44 million.
Jerry Bruckheimer produced the first two films but did not produce the third and will not produce the fourth. "Axel Foley is one of the great action-comedy characters, a character that Eddie loves. I'm lucky enough to help bring it back," di Bonaventura said. "This genre is missing from the landscape.”
This week’s highlight is “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. The plot: It is the same routine every year in Halloweentown, on Halloween the monsters come out and perform a real scare. This particular Halloween, the pumpkin king Jack Skellington, bored of the idea, saunters off into the woods with his dog Zero after Halloween night. Upon the break of dawn, he discovers a clearing of trees with different doors representing various holidays. The Christmas Tree door attracts his attention and upon entrance into the world of Christmas, Jack is fascinated with this new idea of Christmas that he must absolutely share with the citizens of Halloweentown.
In the song, "This is Halloween," the lyrics "...tender lumplings everywhere..." refers to "Tender Lumplings," a song done by composer Danny Elfman when he was with Oingo Boingo. Behemoth is based on B-movie actor/Swedish wrestler Tor Johnson.
Jack makes his first lengthy appearance in Beetle Juice (1988) on top of Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton)'s carousel hat towards the end when Beetlejuice rises out of the floor, after summoned by Lydia (Winona Ryder). Although this was Jack's longer appearance, he actually first appeared in Tim Burton's "Vincent" (1982), in minute 4:45, even if it is a very brief appearance.
The cat from Tim Burton's first film, Vincent (1982) is present in the beginning of the film. It's the cat that jumps onto the garbage can.
Patrick Stewart did the original introduction for the movie.
In the original Poem Written by Tim Burton the only characters that every existed were Jack, Zero and Santa. All the other characters were made up for the movies, although he describes some of the presents which were given out including in some cases the names of the children.
Tim Burton has said the original poem was inspired after seeing Halloween merchandise display in a store being taken down and replaced by a Christmas display. The juxtaposition of ghouls and goblins with Santa and his reindeer sparked his imagination.
The snake seen in the movie, is the Saturn Sandworm from Beetlejuice (1988).
Two items were invented to facilitate the filming of the movie: One was a "light alarm" which would warn the animators if any of the stage lights failed to come on. The other was a system that enabled a puppeteer to seamlessly switch to a replacement puppet if a puppet broke during a shot. Prior to this, either situation, a light failing to come on or a puppet breaking would destroy a shot.
An excerpt from the Batman (1989) theme can be heard when the search-lights are looking for Jack.
Two toys that Jack delivers reference "Batman Returns", the film Tim Burton had directing commitments towards at the time. One is an evil duck on wheels, which is the vehicle that Penguin drives. The other is an evil cat doll, which has the same head as the mascot for Shrek's corporation.
This was the first movie to ever be fully animated using the stop-motion technique that was favored by Tim Burton for special effects in some of his other movies for its surreal quality. The animators received Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects as a result, but lost to ILM who created the dinosaurs for Jurassic Park (1993)
Oogie Boogie is inspired by Cab Calloway, who provided character voices and musical numbers for several Fleischer Bros. cartoons; he and Santas Claus quote dialog from the Betty Boop short "The Old Man of the Mountain", when Santa asks,(quoting Betty's line) "What are you going to do now?", and Oogie returns Calloway's(as the Old Man) "Goin' do the best I can..."
Tim Burton had hoped to direct, but placed Henry Selick in the director's chair instead as Burton was busy working on Batman Returns (1992).
Danny Elfman had done the singing voice for Jack because Chris Sarandon said he did not have too good of a singing voice. There came a time when Danny Elfman almost completely voiced Jack.
When the missiles are being shot at Jack, the two men on the far left, at the very back, disappear when the cannon shoots.
As Jack ponders the holiday doors, the Easter door appears to the right of the Thanksgiving door. Later as he approaches the Christmas door, it is now to the right of the Thanksgiving door and the turkey is facing the other way (the first shot was probably flipped).
When Lock, Shock and Barrel are planning to kidnap Santa they grab a black cloth bag with orange pumpkins. Later when they have caught the Easter Bunny and then when they get Santa the bag is much larger and made of plastic.
Near the end of the movie, when Jack puts a kid on the Mayor's hat, he's doing it from the left, both his arms are on the left of the hat. In the next shot, he's holding the kid with his arms from both sides of the hat.
When Jack's telling the people about Christmas Town, some of them keep switching places. The "Clown with the tear-away face" is in the first line at the start, then later in the second line, then back in the first line, only on the other side; the guy with snake fingers goes to the first line to the second one, then back again; the werewolf switches place with the devil, etc.
When Sally makes a basket of food for Jack she pushes the cork all the way into the bottle. When Jack opens it the cork is sticking out.
When the cannons are being raised to shoot at Santa Jack, there are search lights in the background. When the cannons start firing, the positions of the lights jump, and they stop their sweeping motion.
When Lock, Shock and, Barrel throw one each other into the tub, water visibly splashes, but when they get into the tub, there is no water, nor any draining from the tub.
In "Kidnap the Sandy Claws," just before Lock launches Barrel across the room, Lock is singing and his words are aligned. But when Barrel begins to sing, Lock's lips are moving to the words that Barrel should be singing. Barrel's lips don't move at all.
When Sally is raising the basket up to Jack's window Jack is writing on the chalkboard. When he stops writing the chalk he is holding disappears.
When he citizens of Halloween Town gather up for the town meeting, the megaphone on the roof of the Mayor's car changes position during the clip.

Be sure to check the Calendar of Events and forums on the website for store events and happenings! There is a lot going on - you do not want to miss a thing!
The suit worn by the main character in this movie (and in subsequent interviews) has never been cleaned. What movie? Read the movie trivia and mistakes and find out!!
Rezolution Demo Day – Saturday 18 November – 1:00 PM All are welcome!!
Rezolution is a cyberpunk skirmish based miniature game. Each player represents 1 of 4 (soon to be 5) factions in a battle against one and other. You may hire mercenaries to help you with your cause all the while your foot soldiers mow each other down with gunfire, your psychics sling mental barbs at each other and your hackers do damage on the net.
The rule system is fairly easy. Each mini has a set of stats which are a bonus that is added to a 2d6 die roll. More often than not, your opponent gets to "counter" roll against, trying to stop whatever action you are trying to take (for example - If you shoot at me, I get a chance to dodge). Most minis have special skills that they can use to try and give them the upper hand over their opposition (For example - the ability to shoot multiple times in a turn, the ability to hack computer systems, psychic skills to move freely or fire lightning bolts at an unwary victim...... you get the idea).
Unlike some other sci-fi games, you do not need to have deep pockets to afford this game, it is a skirmish based game, rather than a "unit heavy" game. A handful of mini's is all you need to play the game.
The four major factions are: Ronin- Mercenaries for hire. They may act as a faction of their own, or be hired out by the other factions. They are a rag-tag group, but a force not to be underestimated. APAC- The Asian Pacific corporation. A conglomerate of Asian corporations, bent on controlling the world's consumer market (and possibly more?). CSO- The world (and it's space colonies) need cops, so why not have the Earth's foremost para-military organization do the policing. Dravani- Sometimes that which seems more human than human might just be. Behind closed doors these not-so-human agents conduct strange experiments.
Meanwhile a group of independent Mercenaries are waiting to be hired by those paying the right price.
The answers will appear in next week's newsletter. The answers to last week's trivia are at the bottom of this newsletter.

"You who would harness thunder to the chariot of your will and wield the winds with your breath - do you think these things are owed to you? That they will yield to the investigations of your mind, as a ripe fruit to the knife? Does the water obey the stone? No, the water, with its supple flow, carves the stone. So does magic carve your soul. As the sea hides its secrets from the land, so magic cloaks itself, revealing its depths only to those who plunge in. The Temple of the Mysteries lies sunk deep below these torrents, under the sediment of centuries. Can you hold your breath long enough to dig it out?"
- The Tyrian, rumored archmaster
This book includes:
* Advice on creating your own spells and understanding how cultural beliefs affect magic * Speculations on the nature of archmastery and the rumored Abyssal Watchtowers * A plethora of new spells and item enchantments
Tome of the Mysteries is a 192 page hardcover supplement for the World of Darkness game, Mage: The Awakening.
The Sadhu Nicolas Cage and Virgin Comics are planning to adapt "The Sadhu" into a feature vehicle for noted comic enthusiast Nicolas Cage. Cage will play James Jenson, a soldier who time-travels back to colonial India and becomes a spiritual warrior. This is not the first connection between Cage and Virgin Comics. Early this year the company made a deal to publish "Enigma" a comic developed by Cage and the actor's 15-year-old son Weston.
New Babylon 5 movie Babylon 5 – The Lost Tales will be a direct to DVD movie based on the very popular sci-fi show. It will include a pair of new "Babylon 5" stories, collectively titled "Voices of the Dark," as well as behind-the-scenes content in the package. Original series creator J. Michael Straczynski is writing and directing and returning cast members include Bruce Boxleitner, Tracy Scoggins and Peter Woodward.
"We are very excited to be releasing this new made-for-video release filled with original content for 'Babylon 5,' one of the most successful science fiction series of all time," says Jeff Brown of WHV. "This popular TV show which has been off the air for a few years continues to have a strong loyal fan base that is hungry for more content. This is the first time we're utilizing one of our popular TV franchises as a made-for-video title, and we have a strong commitment to the growth of this sector."
"Babylon 5" premiered in 1993. The series, set in the 23rd century largely in an orbiting space station, was arced out for a five-year serialized run, though the franchise has also spawned as series of feature-length movies, as well as a limited series. The show won a pair of Emmys and a slew of sci-fi and genre awards.
The Darkroom Lucy Lawless says she has finished production on an upcoming horror film entitled The Darkroom. Lawless (Xena, Battlestar Galactica) also has a supporting part in movie. "This is kind of the role that my role in Boogeyman was supposed to be, but that ended up on the cutting room floor," Lawless said in an interview. "And I wasn't really sure if I could do it, actually, to play somebody who was a complete victim by choice. A lot of victimhood is by choice, I guess. She's an alcoholic, a mother who loves her child, but is incapable of protecting them or herself. And she's pivotal to her child's redemption. I like those strange little roles." The low-budget movie centers on a teenage boy who befriends an escapee from a mental institution who sees visions of horrible murders being committed. The Darkroom will be released direct to DVD in January 2007.
Them Battlestar Galactica executive producer David Eick is teaming up with director Jonathan Mostow and writer John McNamara to develop Them, an SF alien-invasion series for the Fox network. The project is based on the graphic novel Six, written by Michael Oeming and Daniel Berman. Eick and McNamara (Profit) are writing the script for the TV take and are executive-producing with Mostow (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines). Mostow is also attached to direct in his first major foray into television.
The basic premise of Them involves a sleeper cell of extraterrestrial terrorists who take the shape of humans. Their mission is compromised when they start experiencing human emotions, which act like a drug on the aliens. Borat banned in Russia
The Borat movie has been banned in Russia because the film pokes fun at Kazakhstan. The film stars Sacha Baron Cohen as a spoof reporter on a trip to the US. Russia's culture ministry say they will not provide a distribution licence for the movie because the film could potentially humiliate different ethnic groups and religions.
Some reviewers have described it as "hysterical" and "the funniest film of the year" while others have called the film deeply offensive. One Kazakh diplomat says that the depiction of his country as “violent, primitive and oppressive bears no resemblance to reality”.
The Dirt Christopher Walken will play Ozzy Osbourne in a movie called “The Dirt” based upon the 2001 book "The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band". The book tells of life on the road during an Ozzy Osbourne/Motley Crue tour. "How funny is that going to be?!" says Vince Neil (lead singer of Motley Crue). Neil also said that other stars are planned to appear in the film as rock stars, including former Batman, Val Kilmer as Van Halen’s ‘Diamond Dave’ - David Lee Roth.
Kilmer is experienced at playing famously excessive rock stars. He has previously played the roles of Elvis Presley in 1993’s “True Romance” and Jim Morrison in the Oliver Stone 1991 biopic “The Doors.” The actors chosen to play Motley Crue themselves will be unknown actors. The film made by Paramount and MTV is now in preproduction and is expected to be completed in 2008.
This week’s highlight is Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. This is a movie that people either seem to really like or hate – no in between. The plot: Kazakhstani TV personality Borat is dispatched to the United States to report on the "greatest country in the world." With a documentary crew in tow, Borat becomes more interested in locating and marrying Pamela Anderson than on his assignment.
The suit Sacha Baron Cohen wears when playing Borat has deliberately never been cleaned.
Borat's greeting in the film's trailer - "Jak sie masz!" - is a common Polish greeting, roughly translated to "How are you?" The state and official languages of Kazakhstan are, however, Russian and Kazaki. Sacha Baron Cohen chose to have Borat speak Polish on purpose as an inside joke.
The European Center for Antiziganism Research, which works against negative attitudes against Roma and Sinti people, accused the producers of defamation and inciting violence against the ethnic group. A complaint was filed with prosecutors in Germany in October.
The character of "Borat" was heavily criticized by the Kazakh Government, "being a concoction of bad taste and ill manners which is incompatible with the ethics and civilized behavior of Kazhakstan's people". Ironically, Sacha Baron Cohen aka "Borat" gave a faked press conference at the White House gates on 29 September 2006, just one day before an official visit of Kazhakstan's president.
Many times, when Borat is speaking in Khazak, he is actually speaking in Hebrew with a fake Russian accent.
The greetings Borat says to the camera are spoken in Polish, phrases such as "thank you", "good day", and "how're you doing?"
Many times in the movie Borat will shape his hand into a W shape, which is a sign for west-side, which is from another one of Cohen’s characters Ali g.
This film broke Fahrenheit 9/11's record for the biggest box office opening weekend ever for any film that opened in less than a thousand theaters.
Ken Davitian's character Azamat speaks fluent Armenian in the film, passing it off as Kazakh as he bounces dialogue back and forth with Cohen.
The police were called on Sacha Baron Cohen 91 times during the production of this film.
The Russian folk tune is "Korobeiniki" (The Peddlers). It's used for the Game Boy version of Tetris (Music A).
Sacha Baron Cohen uses a few Russian and Polish phrases in the movie. In his conversations with Ken Davitian, he actually used a combination of Hebrew with a faked Russian accent and a small amount of Yiddish.
The character of Borat (as with Ali G) originated as short pieces on the satirical British TV show "The 11 O'Clock Show" (1998) presented by Iain Lee.
Borat's hair and moustache are real. It takes Sacha Baron Cohen six weeks to grow the moustache alone.
This film was originally to be directed by Todd Phillips. But creative differences between Phillips and Sacha Baron Cohen prompted Phillips to drop out of the project.
Borat is based on a Russian doctor Sacha Baron Cohen once met. He said the doctor was completely hilarious, but it was unintentional.
The government of Khazakstan is very unhappy with this film and hired two Western public relations firms to counter Borat's claims, running a four-page advertisement in The New York Times.
The languages spoken by Borat are not a mistake but deliberate on the part of Sacha Baron Cohen.
When Azamat is running out of the room at the bed & breakfast, he is empty-handed. When he reaches the bottom of the stairs he is carrying a bag.
When Borat is speaking with the young men, he unbuttons his jacket and lowers his pants to copy them. In the next scene his pants are returned to their original height and his jacket is buttoned.
The piece of paper with the prostitute's phone number is significantly larger when Borat calls the number on it than it was when he tore it out of the newspaper.
The amount of soap changes during the fight in the hotel room.

| Castles & Crusades: Mortality of Green |

Tis said of that ancient brooding forest that even before the world grew accustomed to the light of day, that her stems were grown high and her eves already dark and contemplative. If ever those ancient trees have pondered, however, then it was in silent expectancy, brooding on a bent that only they and perhaps a few others may know, for it has never been theirs to speak with vocal tongue. Mayhap they ponder simple things, or maybe they wonder on the many creatures which have come to crawl the earth since those days before days, for all manner of beasts and monsters have come from the outlands to slip into obscurity underneath the shadowy vale of the Darkenfold.

The Incredible Hulk Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures have announced 27 June 2007 as the release date for the new Hulk movie. Directed by top rising star Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2, Unleashed), The Incredible Hulk will not be a sequel (or connected in any way to) the previous Hulk movie but return to the roots of the long-running comic series, combining a well-developed storyline Marvel says will have “incredible action and fun”. Zak Penn, who previously collaborated with Marvel on X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, is writing the script. Marvel Studios is currently casting the project.
Grindhouse Mickey Rourke will not comment on why he left director Quentin Tarantino's latest film Grindhouse. He says he will only comment after Tarantino does. Rourke was set to play the part of Stuntman Mike on the Kill Bill director's latest collaboration (Grindhouse) with director Robert Rodriguez, and was later replaced by Kurt Russell. "You know what? He hasn't made any comments about it. And until he makes a comment about it, I'm not going to say anything. It just didn't work out. And I hope that's what he has to say. I'm just going to wait." Rourke said in recent interviews.
X-Men 4 Rumors are that Bryan Singer has been approached to direct X-Men 4. According to reports 20th Century Fox was very impressed with how Superman Returns turned out (and remember the success of the second X-Men movie that he directed) and are hoping Singer can bring that to a fourth movie in the series. Singer is committed to a Superman sequel and is said is not to be too inclined to work on X-Men 4 (saying he was not sure he had enough time to work on both Superman and X-Men) but has expressed an interest in a movie based on the character Wolverine. The studio would like him to do both X-Men 4 and Wolverine according to reports and possibly may wait for him to finish the Superman movie.
A Jealous Ghost Paramount Vantage has acquired A.N. Wilson's supernatural novel A Jealous Ghost for Kirsten Dunst to star in and produce. Virginia-based writer Megan Holley will adapt the book for the screen.
Dunst had said that she was interested in finding a dark, elevated psychological thriller in the vein of The Shining and Roman Polanski's Repulsion.
Holley's take detours from the book, which is written in the third-person omniscient voice, dropping certain elements while creating new characters and story points. The take sees Dunst playing a young woman studying in London who, upon beginning a relationship with one of her professors, starts seeing demons.
The Watchmen Zack Snyder, who will direct an upcoming film version of Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel Watchmen, says in interviews that Warner Brothers likes his version of the story, which goes back to the source for its inspiration, closely following the original 1985 setting and alternate-history. The studio offered a few suggestions, but Snyder said that the draft was accepted pretty much as is. "We've shown ... Alex and my official draft to the studio," he said. "And I feel like they're really excited now. They feel like it's a movie, and they get it now, and they're into 1985, and they're into the Cold War and Nixon and all the cool bits. So we're really excited. We're doing another little bit of changes, and then, I mean, knock on wood, we'll get going."
One element that Snyder introduces is a title montage sequence that will walk the audience through recent decades of the alternate-history United States, starting with the Kennedy assassination and Vietnam War and taking viewers to the current day, which is 1985.
Sarah Connor Chronicles Lena Headey (Imagine Me & You) has landed the title role in the Fox pilot The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which is based on the mythology of the Terminator films. In the Warner Brothers TV project, Headey will play Sarah Connor, who, with her son, John, fights attackers from the future in present-day Los Angeles. Headey takes over the role made famous by Linda Hamilton in the first two Terminator films. Josh Friedman will write and David Nutter is set to direct the Sarah Connor pilot. Headey's credits include the features The Brothers Grimm, The Cave and Ripley's Game.
Blood Vampire South Korean starlet Jun Ji-hyun will star in Blood Vampire – a live-action English-language remake of the hit Japanese animated film. Blood Vampire, by Hong Kong director Ronnie Yu ("Jet Li's Fearless"), is a $30 million production from Hong Kong rainmaker Bill Kong and France's Pathe Entertainment and is in preproduction. The project is important to the efforts by iHQ, an integrated entertainment company, to bring its South Korean talent overseas...This is the first big-budget Hollywood film for a Korean actress speaking English in the lead role," according to an anonymous source in iHQ. Jun is known in Asia for roles in the Korean blockbuster "Il Mare," (remade by Warner Bros. as "The Lake House," starring Sandra Bullock) and in director Kwak Jae-yong's "My Sassy Girl" and "Windstruck." The live-action film is based on the Oshii Mamoru anime hit about Saya (Jun), a vampire employed by the U.S. government to hunt demons in post-World War II Japan.
"Vampire" is set to start shooting in March in China and Argentina and is scheduled for release in 2008, the iHQ source said. Production I.G., the Japanese producers of the anime original, 2000's "Blood: The Last Vampire," will receive residuals from the live-action film, the source said.
The anime original was praised for its blend of 2-D and 3-D elements. It was made with Sony's Aniplex and distributed in North America by Manga Entertainment, later spinning off a video game, a manga and plans for a TV series.
This week’s highlight is Die Another Day – the last James Bond movie (Pierce Brosnan). The plot: It's up to James Bond to discover the connection between a North Korean terrorist and an adventurous diamond broker whose looks may be deceiving.
This is the last James Bond movie with Pierce Brosnan in the title role.
In honor of the 40th anniversary of the James Bond franchise Die Another Day has references to each of the Bond movies as well as references to the Bond video games.
While the film negative went through the traditional photochemical printing process, the entire first reel, including the opening pre-title sequence, was instead digital graded. The digital lab (Framestore CFC) also worked on the Hovercraft battle sequence, creating a gritty look with enhanced explosions through to Bond's eventual release from captivity as well as a key sequence that would normally have required sky replacements
When confronting Bond, Miranda Frost says "I know all about you, 007. It's Sex for dinner and death for breakfast." The line "Death for breakfast" is the title of Chapter 11 in the Ian Fleming novel "On Her Majesty's Secret Service".
In the scene where Jinx first appears, Bond claims that he is there on account of birdwatching. Ian Fleming was a keen bird watcher, and the name James Bond was inspired by an American bird watcher of the same name.
The character Wai Lin, played by Michelle Yeoh in Tomorrow Never Dies, was originally supposed to make her return, aiding Bond in Hong Kong, but no arrangement could be worked out with the actress and she was replaced by Chinese Intelligence agent (and hotelier) Chang. Wai Lin's presence is confirmed by an extra on the DVD release concerning the writing of the script: Barbara Broccoli is shown leafing through an early script, and it clearly contains lines for Wai Lin.
Will Yun Lee plays a character named Colonel Moon. There is a James Bond novel by Kingsley Amis, written (under the pseudonym Robert Markham) shortly after Ian Fleming's death, entitled "Colonel Sun". It was Amis's only Bond novel. The full name of Colonel Moon is Colonel Tan-Sun Moon, making the connection to Amis' novel even more explicit.
The frozen lake in Iceland that is the location for some car chases, does not freeze very often naturally. This is due to its closeness to the sea and its high salt content. When the filmmakers had troubles getting the Icelandic lake to freeze properly, they considered filming the car chase scenes on ice in New Zealand. To rectify this situation the river that links the lake to the sea was dammed and within two days the entire lake was frozen to a depth of over 2 meters. Once they solved that problem, filming could take place in Iceland as planned.
For the first time, the famous gun barrel sequence now includes a bullet zooming by after Bond fires.
Sequences featuring a Korean beach were partly filmed at Holywell Bay near Newquay in Cornwall, United Kingdom over several evenings in February/March 2002. The local Holywell surf hut was transformed into a North Korean pill box and a small forest of pine trees were planted in the dunes behind to mimic a remote shore.
To get the Aston Martin and Jaguar (both rear wheel drive) to perform on ice, the filmmakers had to modify them into four-wheel-drive cars. Both the Aston Martin and the Jaguar were completely stripped of engine and running gear. These were replaced by the Ford V8, 4WD kit and 4spd Auto 'box from Ford's Explorer. This was to help them perform on ice.
The futuristic weapon that Colonel Moon uses during parts of the chase after the opening sequence did really exist when the movie was made, at least in prototype form. It's a Heckler and Koch OICW (Objective Individual Combat Weapon), a weapon developed as the future's infantry assault rifle as part of the US Army's "Soldier 2000" program. It consist of a grenade launcher mounted on top of a 'regular' 5.56mm (.223) caliber assault rifle, as well as a digital camera within the optic sights. This digital camera is supposed to be linked to a display within the soldier's helmet, enabling him to look/shoot around corners, as well as transmitting live footage of a combat situation to his troop commander or a higher superior
When Bond gets away across the lake in the jet-powered ice racer, the cable pulling it along is clearly visible in the overhead shot.
When Graves holds Bond captive, and reveals that Bond has again been betrayed, a henchman can be seen behind Graves holding a G36 assault rifle. There is no magazine loaded into the weapon.
Bond's hands are shackled while arriving at the prisoner transfer, but they are unshackled as he gets off the truck.
The camouflage uniforms of North Korean Soldiers are actually South Korean civilian reservist uniforms.
When Bond orders the Mojito in Cuba, they make it with golden rum, but when the drink is handed to him, it has been (correctly) made with white rum.
Lighting equipment is reflected in the land-speed-record car before Bond pitches it over the ice cliff. Suspended vertically on the ice cliff, the camera and the back soundstage wall are visible, likewise reflected in its screen.
The ice-fields and glaciers of Iceland are in the center of the country, not near the coast, where it is barren and rocky.
When Bond arrives at the ice palace the valet gets into his car, but never takes it away, and is not in the car in the next shot of the car.
Upon leaving the clinic, Bond has four diamonds. He then gives five to M.
Jinx is cut on her torso during the sword fight on the plane. Yet, moments later, when she is with Bond in the Korean hut fiddling with diamonds in her belly, the cut is gone and she is scar-less.
A metal strut in the broken aircraft window repeatedly disappears and reappears between shots.

Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures
New miniatures set the stage for battle in the D&D underworld.
True to the head-to-head nature of the D&D Miniatures Game, the latest expansion set highlights miniatures which find their true nature on the plains of war. Per previous releases, the figures in the set are selected from key D&D RPG titles such as Monster Manual, Monster Manual III, Miniatures Handbook, and the Eberron & Forgotten Realms campaign settings. The set also includes an elite group of figures that come with a second, epic-level stat card, allowing players to assemble higher-value armies with which to do battle.

"I only need to know one thing: where they are." "I wanna introduce you to a personal friend of mine. This is an M41A pulse rifle. Ten millimeter with over-and-under thirty millimeter pump action grenade launcher."
Featuring chess pieces made of solid, nearly UNBREAKABLE pewter and a beautifully designed resin chess board, the Aliens Deluxe Pewter Chess Set is one of the highest quality and most impressive chess sets ever manufactured. Featuring the space marines versus the aliens, this chess set captures the mood and design of the original Alien sequel, James Cameron's "Aliens."
The human side of the board features the design of the space station from the movie, while the sides of the board represent the gradual infestation of the station by the aliens. Within the infestation are human victims, either awaiting a face hugger or perhaps incubation an alien warrior.
Limited edition of approximately 3,000 pieces.

One Missed Call Margaret Cho has recently finished filiming One Missed Call, an English-language remake of the 2003 Japanese horror film Chakushin Ari. "It's in the vein of The Grudge," says Cho. "It's a really quiet, really sort of scary, very thoughtful and intelligent horror film, which is kind of what's happening a lot in horror nowadays."
The original movie, from controversial Japanese horror author Takashi Miike, begins with a college student who fails to answer her cell phone because she doesn't recognize the caller ID. When she replays the message later, she realizes the time stamp is three days in the future, with her own voice as she's being killed. In the remake, Cho will play a detective. "It's really creepy stuff," Cho said. "It was very exciting to work on and really scary. I play a very cynical policewoman who doesn't believe anybody is getting voicemails from ghosts. People hear themselves dying, and they have a couple of days to save themselves, to stop it from happening for real. They're getting voicemails from their ghostly selves. I've seen the original film, and it's terrifying. It's really creepy, and I think they’ve done a great job with this one. In J-horror a lot of things are very mysterious, and this one sort of illuminates the story a little more, but it's still very scary” One Missed Call is to be released Summer 2007.
Live Action Speed Racer Producer Joel Silver has enlisted his Matrix creators, Larry and Andy Wachowski, to write and direct a big-screen, live-action version of the animated TV series Speed Racer. The movie will be the duo's first directorial outing since completing the Silver-produced Matrix series in 2003. They are reuniting with several of the creative behind-the-scenes talents from the Matrix films, including executive producer Grant Hill and visual-effects supervisor John Gaeta, who won an Oscar for his work on The Matrix.
Based on the classic 1960s series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida, which was retooled for North American audiences, the big-screen Speed will follow the adventures of the young race-car driver Speed in his quest for glory in his thundering gadget-laden vehicle, Mach 5. The movie will feature other characters from the show, including Speed's family and his mysterious archrival, Racer X.
Silver has been trying to get the film version off the ground since the early 1990s; in 2004, Vince Vaughn even pitched a take that cast him as Racer X. When Silver worked on V for Vendetta with the Wachowskis, he approached them about tackling the project. The duo were reluctant to do it unless they could figure out a way to bring something new to the table.
The plan is for the Wachowskis to shoot in summer 2007, for a summer 2008 release. Speed Racer will be a Warner Brothers Pictures presentation, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, of a Silver Pictures production.
Halo Movie Delayed Just days after Microsoft vowed to continue development of a movie based on its Halo video-game franchise, executive producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh's Wingnut Films have announced that they are postponing the movie, with Microsoft's approval. The news comes a little more than a week after Universal and Fox pulled out of their agreement to co-finance the movie, reportedly over concerns about the film's budget and finance arrangements.
Now, Wingnut Films said in a statement: "As was previously confirmed, we deeply regret that both Universal and Fox did not choose to move forward with financing the Halo film under the original terms of the agreement. At this time Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, along with their partner, Microsoft, have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video-game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first-class film to the big screen. We are fully supportive of director Neill Blomkamp's vision of the film. Neill is a tremendously gifted filmmaker and his preliminary work on Halo is truly awe-inspiring. While it will undoubtedly take a little longer for Halo to reach the big screen, we are confident that the final feature film will be well worth the wait." Shortly after Universal and Fox pulled out, Microsoft vowed to move forward with the Halo film and said that prep on the movie was going ahead.
Mission Impossible III lawsuit A Mission: Impossible III crew member who was badly burned in an explosion can proceed with a negligence lawsuit against Tom Cruise's production company a judge ruled 31 October in Los Angeles.
Special-effects technician Steven Scott Wheatley suffered third-degree burns on more than 60 percent of his body in June 2005, when explosives designed to simulate a missile attack went off unexpectedly during filming at the Agua Dulce Movie Ranch, court documents said. A Superior Court judge said there were sufficient grounds for Wheatley to proceed to trial against Cruise/Wagner Productions; Viacom, the parent company of Paramount Pictures; the owners of the movie ranch, and various people who were on set when he was hurt.
Nathan Fillion on Lost Serenity/Firefly star Nathan Fillion guest-stars on the 8 November episode of ABC's series Lost, "I Do," which also marks the decision by Kate (Evangeline Lilly) to hook up with either Jack (Matthew Fox) or Sawyer (Josh Holloway). Fillion will play a character named Kevin in the episode. In "I Do," Jack makes a decision regarding Ben's (Michael Emerson) offer, Kate feels helpless when it looks like an angry Pickett (Michael Bowen) is going to make good on his threat to kill Sawyer, and Locke (Terry O'Quinn) discovers a hidden message that may guide him through the next steps on his journey to unlocking the secrets of the island.
This week's highlight is The Grudge 2. If you liked the first one you will enjoy the second installment in the series. The plot: In Tokyo, a young woman is exposed to the same mysterious curse that afflicted her sister. The supernatural force, which fills a person with rage before spreading to its next victim, brings together a group of previously unrelated people who attempt to unlock its secret to save their lives.
Sony Pictures green-lighted this sequel just three days after the Grudge was released.
Director Takashi Shimizu went to Los Angeles to meet with producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi in a small office at Columbia Pictures. The purpose was to develop a story outline for the sequel's first draft, which also involved employees from Tapert and Raimi's production company Ghost House Pictures, producer Taka Ichise, and writer Stephen Susco. According to Tapert, the session was roughly seven or eight hours of people suggesting ideas for the story.
To keep the mood on the set light, the actors and director would often joke around and attempt to frighten one another. This included a Karaoke session performed by Shimizu and Takashi on Kebbel, Arielle's birthday.
The role of Vanessa was originally written for Vanessa Lengies, who eventually turned it down to film "My Suicide"; the part still bares her name.
Sony Pictures commissioned Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA to design a Haunt maze for its premiere in the month of October.
The main subplot of the three schoolgirls is taken directly from Ju-on: The Grudge. However the fates of the schoolgirls are different, and the relationship to each other is different.
The subplot of Kayako's origin is delved into more depth which was first revealed in the first film. The peekaboo sequence on the bus is similar to one in the hospital in Ju-on: The Grudge.
The fates of the cast is identical to the original Japanese movie.
When Jake is told to take his soccer equipment and put it in his room, he takes it and sits on his bed, and shoves all the gear underneath his bed. In the next shot the equipment is out again. When Trish hits Bill the knife and fork get knocked on the floor but in the next scene are back on the table and she uses them to eat.
When Vanessa and Miyuki show Allison how to wear her school uniform her socks change (alternating between being pushed down and pulled up).
When Eason is in his photography lab the timer changes places and direction.
When Vanessa runs out of the office she runs down the street to a public telephone box, and opens the glass screen door, leaving it open. The next few shots alternately show the door open and closed as she is talking. The pens in the therapist office keep changing angles.

No Arnold in T4 According to MGM studios the fourth Terminator movie will not have Arnold Schwarzenneger in it ending weeks of rumors that he would be cast. "It will be titled Terminator blah blah, not four," Rick Sands-chief operating officer at MGM studios said in recent interviews. As for the film's new star, he said: "It's like the Batman or Superman franchise in that it lends itself to having different actors in the roles." No word on yet as to who will be cast or the plot. It is rumored the storyline will concentrate on John Connor and how he helps bring humanity "back from the brink" and is hoped this will rejuvenate the franchise.
The Dark Is Rising David Cunningham (The Path to 9/11) will direct The Dark Is Rising, a fantasy film based on Susan Cooper's book series. The film is being produced under the co-financing alliance between Walden Media (The Chronicles of Narnia) and 20th Century Fox reached in August. The Dark Is Rising is part of Cooper's five-book series, focusing on a youth who discovers at age 11 that he's a Sign Seeker, the last of a group of immortals dedicated to fighting a growing presence of dark forces. Cunningham has already headed to Romania, where he'll prep the film for an early 2007 start and a 28 September 2007 release date.
Moon Knight Marvel Studios, a division of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. and Vancouver based production company, No Equal Entertainment, have entered into an agreement to develop a live-action television series based on Marvel's cult favorite Moon Knight. The announcement was made by David Maisel of Marvel Entertainment and Larry Sugar of No Equal Entertainment.
First introduced by Marvel Comics in the mid-1970s, Moon Knight remains a true fan favorite as evidenced by the current best-selling comic book series featuring the Super Hero. Moon Knight presents the story of soldier of fortune Marc Spector. After an encounter with the Egyptian god of vengeance and the moon deity Konshu, he became a hero: Moon Knight. The encounter leaves the tormented Spector with even more inner demons to combat. Now as Moon Knight, he hunts criminals in the night, bringing them to justice, and striking fear in the hearts of criminals everywhere. Moon Knight's blend of action, the supernatural, and complex, intriguing characters will serve as the foundation for the live-action series.
"Moon Knight has all the elements for an engaging television series. No Equal Entertainment has a real passion for the project and an amazing vision of how to bring the character and storyline to life that will appeal to action and sci-fi enthusiasts," said Maisel.
New writer for Hellblazer comic Vertigo has announced that versatile and renowned writer Andy Diggle will be the new regular writer on HELLBLAZER, the imprint's longest-running series, starting with issue #230. Diggle, best known for lengthy and acclaimed runs on titles such as THE LOSERS, SWAMP THING, LADY CONSTANTINE and ADAM STRANGE will be taking the character of John Constantine back to his roots with a potent mix of supernatural horror and social relevance. And while Diggle will be mining Constantine's rich history, these stories will clearly serve as an ideal jumping-on point for new and former readers of the series.
US not asking for Snipes to be Extradited Authorities in the US have made no attempt to extradite Wesley Snipes from Namibia on tax fraud charges, according to the African nation's government. The Blade actor was indicted last week on eight counts of tax fraud over allegations he tried to cheat the US government out of $12 million in false refund claims. But he has been shooting new horror movie Gallowwalker in Namibia since August and has no immediate plans to return to America, where a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Lidwina Shapwa, Namibia's Ministry of Justice permanent secretary, insists there has been no American contact seeking extradition, and that the two countries do not have an extradition treaty. Writer/producer Joanne Reay said on Monday, "We are shooting and we are continuing to shoot. We are aware of the issue around the tax charges but we are not discussing it."
New Mushiking - Love & Berry Films Announced Sega Japan has announced new anime movies based on it's domestically successful children's trading card / videogame series Mushiking and Love & Berry. Nationwide release in Japanese theaters is set for spring 2007. The last Mushiking film was released in December 2006. For the new work Sega says they are completely "changing the story and outlook on the world versus past works". First hitting the market in 2003, Mushiking card sales have exceeded 398 million pieces in total as of the end of September 2006. For the girl's dress up focused "Fashionable Witch Love & Berry" however, this will be the first outing in as an animation. This series has sold 207 million card pieces in total as the end of September.
Baker Street In the planning stages since 2003, the film which has a script by D ick Clement and Ian La Frenais, will see Jason Statham starring in the true story of the now legendary 1971 heist. Legendary, because all the details of the crime were locked down under an Official Secrets Act “D” notice, which meant that nothing could be written about it for 30 years. The classified shroud was pulled because MI5 were involved (they set up the bank robbers and were hoping to send them all to prison) and because nothing went exactly to plan. The thieves got away with not only quite a bit of money but also incriminating evidence about royal and political shenanigans that were stored in the vault. None of the money was ever recovered and the crooks stayed free after threatening to release the information to the press.
This week's highlight is a special request in honor of Halloween. No - not the first movie you just thought of. This week's highlight is The Exorcist (1973). This movie was extremely controversial when it was first released to movie theaters for a variety of reasons.
Ellen Burstyn received a permanent spinal injury during filming. In the sequence where she is thrown away from her possessed daughter, a harness jerked her hard away from the bed. She fell on her coccyx and screamed in pain. The scene was left in the movie.
John Boorman had been offered the chance to direct "The Exorcist" but declined because he felt the storyline was "cruel towards children".
Among the subliminal photos inserted throughout the film ("the version you've never seen") are: • When Reagan visits Dr. Klein's office for the first time she sees the face of the demon for a second while she's getting her EEG recorded. • When Father Karras has his dream there is a very quick flash of picture of a demon/devil, then the screen goes white, then the picture is briefly flashed again; • Chris Macneil comes home and finds the kitchen lights flickering, the same demon/devil picture, though much smaller, is superimposed on the overhead exhaust fan above the stove; seconds later, just before Chris Macneil enters her daughter's room, what appears to be a very large, rudimentary representation of the demon in paint (it's very "puffy"-looking and almost amorphous, except for the very noticeable eyes and teeth) appears on the door as it is opened; then, when Chris leaves the room, an image of a gargoyle slowly becomes visible just to the left of the doorway, remains briefly, then fades away again. • During the final exorcism scene there is another superimposition of the demon's face on Reagan's for a brief instant.
In the "Version You've Never Seen" a digital coat was added to Chris MacNeil in the scene where Karras and Merrin go to confront the demon for the first time. This was an obvious goof in the original release which showed Chris with and without the coat in different scenes happening around the same time.
The archaeological dig site seen at the beginning of the movie is the actual site of ancient Nineveh in Hatra, Iraq. William Friedkin had to take an all-British crew to film in Iraq because the US had no diplomatic relations with Iraq at that time. They were allowed to film on conditions that included teaching Iraqi filmmakers advanced film techniques as well as how to make fake blood.
The refrigerated bedroom set was cooled with four air conditioners and temperatures would plunge to around 30 to 40 below zero. It was so cold that perspiration would freeze on some of the cast and crew. On one occasion the air was saturated with moisture resulting in a thin layer of snow falling on the set before the crew arrived for filming.
Director Friedkin eventually asked technical advisor Rev. Thomas Bermingham to exorcise the set. He refused, saying an exorcism might increase anxiety. Rev. Bermingham eventually visited the set and gave a blessing and talk to reassure the cast and crew.
The "Exorcist steps", 75 (or 74 - one is very small) stone steps at the end of M-Street in Georgetown, were padded with 1/2"-thick rubber to film the death of Father Damien Karras. The stuntman tumbled down the stairs twice. Georgetown University students charged people around $5 each to watch the stunt from the rooftops.
There are tales about ominous events surrounding the year-long shoot, including the deaths of nine people associated with the production and stories about a mysterious fire that destroyed the set one weekend. Actors Jack MacGowran & Vasiliki Maliaros died before the film was released.
Christian evangelist Billy Graham claimed an actual demon was living in the celluloid reels of this movie.
Author William Peter Blatty once won $10,000 on the Groucho Marx show "You Bet Your Life" (1950). When Groucho asked what he planned to do with the money, he said he planned to take some time off to "work on a novel." That novel was The Exorcist.
On the first day of filming the exorcism sequence, Linda Blair's delivery of her foul-mouthed dialogue so disturbed the gentlemanly Max von Sydow he actually forgot his lines.
The inspiration for the book (published 1971) on which the movie was based dates back to a real episode of exorcism that occurred in 1949. Writer William Blatty was at Georgetown University and had read a Washington Post (20 August 1949) account by Bill Brinkley ("Priest Frees Mt. Rainier Boy Reported Held In Devil's Grip") of an exorcism, involving a 13 year-old boy in Mount Rainer, Maryland. The exorcism of "Roland Doe" (pseudonym) took place between January and April 1949 by Father E. Albert Hughes and Father William Bowdern.
When originally released in the UK a number of town councils imposed a complete ban on the showing of the film. This led to the bizarre spectacle of "Exorcist Bus Trips" where enterprising travel companies organised buses to take groups to the nearest town where the film was showing.
When released in 1973, the film caused such mass hysteria, with people screaming, fainting and paramedics being called to theaters, making it one of the most controversial films ever made.
In the scene in the language lab, a white banner is visible with the following letters TASUKETE written in red. TASUKETE means "Help me" in Japanese.
One of the most famous scenes in the movie and the shot used for the posters and the cover of the DVD/VHS releases was inspired by the 1954 painting Empire of Light ("L'Empire des lumières") by René Magritte. It is the scene where Father Merrin steps out of a cab and stands in front of the MacNeil residence bathed in an eerie glow.
A filmgoer who saw the movie in 1974 during its original release fainted and broke his jaw on the seat in front of him. He then sued Warner Brothers and the filmmakers, claiming that the use of subliminal imagery in the film had caused him to pass out. The studio settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.
Due to death threats against Linda Blair, Warner Bros had body guards protecting her for six months after the film's release.
If adjusted for inflation, this would be the top grossing R-rated film of all time.
The original teaser trailer, which consisted of nothing but images of the white-faced demon quickly flashing in and out of darkness, was banned in many theaters, as it was deemed "too frightening".
Linda Blair injured her back when a piece of the rig broke as she was thrown about on the bed.
The green pea soup used for the vomit scene was Anderson's specifically. The crew tried Campbell's but didn't like the "effect". Linda Blair hated vegetable so much at that time, that the use of the soup actually did make her throw up.
The cigarette that Chris stomps out in the park is back in her hand a moment later.
Position of the planchette on the Ouija board changes between shots.
Rubber mats are visible on the steps for the famous fall down the staircase scene.
When father Karras is in the dorm sitting on the bed smoking a cigarette, the priest takes the cigarette from Karras and lays him down on the bed. When father Karras sits up and grabs the priest's arm, the cigarette is still in Karras's right hand. In the next shot, the cigarette is back with the other priest.
Father Karras's lighter changes hands just as he is about to light a cigarette in his apartment.
After the initial session of exorcism, Father Damien Karras unties Regan's wrist from the bed and ties them together. When Father Merrin returns to resume the session Regan's wrists are again tied to the bed.
When Karras is drunk in his bed, his friend takes his cigarette from him. A few shots later, when Karras is lying down, the cigarette is in his hand again.
When Regan insults Karras's mother the words heard and what you see her saying is not synchronized.
In the basement with the Ouija board, Regan is playing with a table tennis paddle and ball. She puts the ball under the paddle and rests it on the table when her mother brings the Ouija board. The ball and paddle keep changing positions.
In the 2000 re-release, when Father Merrin asks Chris McNeil what Regan's middle name is, she is wearing a fur coat. When the priests enter Regan's room and Father Karras closes the door in her face, Mrs. McNeil is no longer wearing the coat.
When Chris goes to investigate the noises in the attic, she takes a long candle up the stairs with her. When she actually gets into the attic, it is several inches shorter.
When Regan is floating over her bed, the shadow of the rig holding her up can be seen on the wall behind the priests.
While in the attic, Chris suddenly moves the candle away from her face before the flame-burst as if she knew it was coming.
Near the beginning of the movie, the old priest is in Northern Iraq and you can see the shadow of a microphone on his hat.
During the exorcism, Reagan is lying on the bed with her head to one side while green vomit is pouring from her mouth onto the bed. The tube that pumps this "vomit" is visible on the back of her cheek, just under her ear.
After Regan vomits on Father Merrin's purple stole you see Father. Karras washing it off in the bathroom sink. In the next shot when the exorcism resumes and Father Merrin is wearing the stole it is completely dry.
When Merrin and Karres enter Regans room to start the exorcism, Merrin opens a small black case and produces a crucifix which he kisses then puts on the bedside table. After the priests take a break from the exorcism, Merrin re-enters the room and takes the crucifix out of the case again.
During the exorcism Regan/demon is lying with the head on some pillows. The camera changes the angle and there is no pillows. Then the camera angle change again and the pillows are back.
At the point in the movie where they show Regan on the bed with her hands in the air with the statue behind her, they show her hands untied and then the next scene her hands are still tied.
William Peter Blatty closely modelled the exorcism scene on the actual rite of Exorcism in the Church's "Rituale Romanum". Father Merrin can be seen opening a copy of the Rituale in the scene in question. However, the priests depart from the Rituale in a couple of details. Normally there would be four people apart from Regan in the room during the exorcism: the Exorcist, an assistant priest to take over in case the exorcist died midway through, a member of the victim's family of the same sex as the victim, and a doctor to administer any medication that was needed. Father Merrin also should have delayed the second round of the exorcism and phoned the bishop to get a replacement for Father Karras instead of continuing on his own.

Just as ‘Code 7’ is Troubleshooter dispatchers’ jargon for a mission that promises certain death, so ‘Sector Zero’ is Alpha Complex slang for punishment duty. Troubleshooters ‘sent to Sector Zero’ face a dispiriting assignment nobody else wanted. Maybe they must supervise Armed Forces latrine scrubots, or administer experimental R&D medications to insane super-powered mutants. Or maybe those benighted Troubleshooters get in so much trouble they’re assigned the missions in this PARANOIA collection, Sector Zero.
The three missions in this collection will entertain your players while making their Troubleshooters wish they’d called in sick.
‘Bubblegum Run’ sends the PCs on a couple of annoying errands into Junior Creches corrupted by Communist propaganda slipped into chewing-gum wrappers.
In ‘The Dinner Party’, a BLUE citizen recruits the Troubleshooters for a dire emergency, on which the fate of Alpha Complex itself – uh, doesn’t depend at all. In fact, he wants the PCs to prepare an evening party for several high-clearance citizens. Well, what a relief! What could possibly go wrong?
‘Lightning Rod’ sends the Troubleshooters out onto the immense dome over Alpha Complex to set up an R&D experiment. And then another experiment. And another. Hey, what’s all that ominous-looking grey stuff gathering overhead?
| RuneQuest-Legendary Heroes |
Throughout the teeming masses of lives that are born, live and eventually die in the spanning worlds of this reality there are a handful of shining beacons of hope that show the rest what they are capable of. These brilliant stars of life are far and few between, making their appearance in the tides of normal lives something truly special. They walk amongst their fellows like giants of deed and duty, a living reminder that the world is shaped by the actions of the bold and powerful. They are the legends of this world.
If you are looking to take your RuneQuest campaign to the ultimate level, Legendary Heroes is for you, providing plenty of options for players and Games Masters alike to create the greatest challenges. Legendary Heroes are characters defined as having at least 5 skills of 150% or higher, making them the true masters of their world, and this supplement provides some paths as to what they could be doing aside from 'normal' adventuring.
There are rules for mass combat, allowing them to lead entire armies to war, and new legendary abilities (such as Hail of Woe and Storm of 1,000 Blows) that will give them almost supernatural skills. Rune Magic is expanded with a new spell list to take advantage of higher skill use and, if that is just not enough for your character, you can attempt to track down a Legendary Rune, ancient items of awesome power, any one of which will mark you as a true hero. Finally, the book is rounded off with a bestiary containing adversaries worthy of your party.

The Witches Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro says that he wants to make a “more faithful film version” of Roald Dahl's dark fantasy children's book The Witches (which was adapted for the screen in 1990 by director Nicholas Roeg). "I liked a lot of the Roeg film, but I really, really disliked that the ending was changed because I think the essence of the Dahl story is that the kid remains a mouse," said del Toro, who said The Witches is his favorite Dahl book. "Having said that, how the hell do I know that they won't change it on me again? They probably did that to Nicholas Roeg. So it may happen again. But I want to try… That script is written. It's budgeted and awaiting a green light."
Del Toro added that he's got several other fantasy and horror projects that he wants to produce and/or direct in the near future including The Coffin, Mountains of Madness, Dead Man and Left Hand of Darkness and Pan's Labyrinth (which opens January 2007).
Nathan Fillion Serenity and Slither star Nathan Fillion has signed a talent-holding deal with Fox Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox TV. The studio and the network will develop a comedy or drama script for the actor or cast him in an existing project if the new one doesn't go to pilot according to sources in Hollywood. Fillion has previously been rumored to play Indiana Jones in a possible remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Counter Clockwise Jennifer Aniston has signed up to appear in Counter Clockwise. The story follows Harvard psychologist Ellen Langer, known for her work in the illusion of control, decision-making and aging theories. The script focuses on a real study Langer conducted in which she reversed the aging process of her subjects by making them believe they were younger. Filming is expected to start in 2007.
The Mist Stephen King’s The Mist (a 1980 novella – part of the Skeleton Crew anthology) is the next Stephen King book to try and make the jump to the big screen. The story follows residents of a lakeside community trapped in a grocery store when a thick and unnatural mist engulfs the town. It soon becomes apparent that there are things living in the mist, horrific Lovecraftian style things who'll devour whoever wanders outside. Inside though as fear grips those still alive, it may not prove to be any safer.
Filmmaker Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption) has had the rights and has often said he plans to make the movie. Actor Thomas Jane (The Punisher) says that he is involved in the project. He says "The script is done. It has been for a bit now, and it looks like it might be over at Dimension".
Starship Dave Director Brian Robbins ("The Shaggy Dog", "Hardball", "Norbit") and Eddie Murphy are working together once again on their latest project "Starship Dave". It is currently in pre-production at 20th Century Fox with filming set to start March 2007. "Starship Dave" is the story of a crew of miniature, human-looking aliens who are seeking a way to save their doomed world. Murphy will play the human spacecraft they travel in (Starship Dave) as well as the ship's captain.
Atlas Shrugged Writer-director Randall Wallace ("We Were Soldiers", "Braveheart") has been hired to write the adaptation of Ayn Rand's classic "Atlas Shrugged" for Lionsgate. The story follows Dagny Taggart (Angelina Jolie), a no-nonsense railroad executive, and her attempt to keep the company alive despite repeated encroachment by the apparent decline of civilization. It seems the great minds of the world are disappearing because of one particular "destroyer" taking them away.
Wallace intends to finish the adaptation before he starts production next year on his Russian-set Catherine the Great epic "The Mercenary," (another collaboration with "Atlas" star Jolie).
Fantastic Four Actress Beau Garrett has joined the cosmic cast of the forthcoming Fantastic Four sequel, Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer. The actress joins returning cast members Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis in the hugely anticipated sequel starring the Marvel's First Family. Garrett will play Frankie Raye, a scientist and love interest of Johnny Storm. In the comics, Raye becomes a superhero named Nova with Human Torch-like abilities. Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer will be released June 2007
Comic characters on Guiding Light In the first-ever comic-soap crossover, Marvel's mightiest heroes (and villains) meet some of daytime drama's steamiest characters from the CBS soap opera The Guiding Light. The Avengers and their deadly foes descend on Guiding Light's city of Springfield to determine if a new super-powered being is friend or foe. Appearing in comics as an 8-page back-up beginning 26 October and written by soap-and-comic scribe Jim McCann, this adventure will actually be the second appearance of this new super-powered character. The debut and origin of Springfield's first costumed crime-fighter will be told on air on the 1 November episode of Guiding Light. As an added bonus, the episode will feature many "Easter eggs" for sharp-eyed Marvel fans, so be on the lookout!
This crossover represents a unique partnership between Marvel and Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc (PGP), the producers of Guiding Light, Storm's wedding dress (featured in her wedding to T'Challa in Black Panther #18) was designed by Guiding Light costume designer Shawn Dudley. Both Marvel and PGP are thrilled about this opportunity for audience cross-pollination, especially Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada. "This is just one more way that we're trying to reach out beyond our usual audience in an effort to expose those who don't know anything about the greatness of comics and hopefully come back with a few new converts," he says. "And hopefully some of our fans will find themselves with a new habit as well- Guiding Light!"

This week’s highlight is one of my favorites. Pitch Black (2000). The plot: When their ship crash-lands on a remote planet with multiple suns, the marooned passengers soon learn that escaped convict Riddick is not the only thing they have to fear. Deadly creatures lurk in the shadows, waiting to attack in the dark, and the planet is rapidly plunging into the utter blackness of a total eclipse. With the body count rising, the doomed survivors are forced to turn to Riddick with his eerie eyes to guide them through the darkness to safety. With time running out, there's only one rule: Stay in the light.
The spaceship is called Hunter/Gratzner -- also the name of the visual effects company that designed and built the actual model of the ship.
Desert scenes filmed in the same location used for Mad Max.
In one of the shots showing cargo pods being jettisoned from the ship before the crash, one of the pods is numbered '2E', a jokey reference to the director's name ('Twohy') from the effects crew.
The contacts that Vin Diesel wore to play Riddick were a prototype. After the first day of filming, when they tried to remove the contact lenses, they couldn't. Due to where they were filming, they had to have an optometrist flown in from the nearest town, three hours away. Diesel called the contacts hubcaps
Vin Diesel actually performed the shoulder-dislocation stunt (when Riddick breaks free for the second time) for the crew, holding a chain between his hands, although he couldn't do it with the cuffs on. The version we see is mostly him with some special effects thrown in.
The contact lenses Vin Diesel wore in the movie, while a prototype during production, were briefly available to the public from Lens Quest following the release of the film. They were called Shine Job, like in the movie.
When the crew is brought out of stasis by the computer, the shot of Simon Burke being ejected from the stasis chamber is actually a shot of Cole Hauser being "kicked" from the chamber. There was no shot of the character Owens being "kicked" from the chamber. This can be seen in slow motion.
The hot desert where they filmed was actually about 50F. They were misting water on the actors to make it appear as if they were sweating.
Had a 60 days shooting schedule.
Vin Diesel said that while shooting the scenes where his character was in a suspended animation chamber, he had a claustrophobia attack at one point during shooting and had to be taken out of the chamber.
It was Cole Hauser's idea for Johns to shoot up the drugs into his eye.
The weapon Johns uses is a SPAS 12, modified to look futuristic.
Toward the end of the movie you see two people fighting a raptor. The original ending has the deaths reversed. It was changed because the studio thought that it made for a better ending.
Claudia Black was also filming her tv series Farscape at the same time as Pitch Black. She says she nearly fell asleep several times during filming on both.
In the darkened hallway immediately after the eclipse, the shadow of a camera is visible on the left third of the screen (widescreen version).
Shazza rips up the same tarp that Zeke already ripped up.
When Fry is climbing out of the cave, the "solid" walls shake.
During the ground crash sequence, objects within the ship should be thrown forward due to decelerating inertia, not pulled backwards as though the ship was accelerating.
When Ali runs into the closet, he is surrounded by a flock of the raptors. In the reverse shot, from inside the closet, there are no raptors around him at all.
When they are all in the room, drinking water, discussing what happened to the previous miners, the bruise on Riddick's head disappears between shots.
After the fight between Johns and the raptor Carolyn and three others start running back. Riddick meets up with them. All of them besides Riddick are holding makeshift torches. When Riddick starts talking to them, the torches are lit, but in the next shot, they are unlit.
Although the planet's surface is supposed to be completely dark - "pitch black", as it were - the landscape is actually almost always fairly brightly lit, and the characters habitually have visible, very distinctive shadows that clearly betray the strong lights they used in the filming. The less light the characters themselves are carrying, the more obvious this becomes.
The cutting torch Fry looks for is an oxygen-acetylene torch. However, when they have to cut their way into the next compartment, Riddick is using a plasma cutting torch. An oxy-acetylene cutting torch would leave the edges of whatever it cut glowing red. When Riddick comes through the hole he just made, the edges aren't glowing.
After Zeke shoots the wounded passenger who was mistaken for Riddick, the blood splatters all over Shazza's face and chest. In the next shot, the blood is gone, including whatever trace of it would have been on her clothing.
Obvious doubles in the scene where the crew boards Shazza's ride to escape from the eclipse, just as they ride through the skeleton barrier.
During a solar eclipse it is impossible to see the full shape of the eclipsing object - you can only see the sun's disc being obstructed. This is due to the fact that the back side cannot be darker than the dark sky around - which is still true when there is an atmosphere which diffuses the sunlight at the location of observation. However, during the eclipse scene, the obstructing planet is clearly visible from its back side.

 Arcane Power at Your Fingertips
Every sentient creature is born with some potential to work magic. However, true mastery of arcane magic requires skill, practice, and power beyond the reach of common folk—specifically, the power to harness raw magic and shape it into a desired effect. You are among those gifted few who have learned to channel arcane magic, shaping it to serve your creative or destructive whims.
This D&D supplement is intended for players and Dungeon Masters. In addition to providing the definitive treatise on arcane magic, it expands the character options available to users of arcane magic, including bards, sorcerers, wizards, assassins, warlocks, and wu jen. Herein you’ll find never-before-seen prestige classes, spells and invocations, magic items, alchemical items, heritage feats, and reserve feats (a new type of feat that grants special abilities to those who remain charged with magical power). Alternative class features give other character classes—from the barbarian to the rogue—a little taste of what it’s like to be an arcanist without sacrificing their core identities.
| Expedition to Castle Ravenloft |

A dark shape emerges from the shadow of Castle Ravenloft. A flash of lightning reveals the sneering countenance of Count Strahd von Zarovich. His eyes burn with eternal hunger and contempt for life. From a narrow balcony, he peers out into the drizzling twilight at the few sad lights of the village below and mutters a single name:
“Ireena . . .”
Expedition to Castle Ravenloft is a DUNGEONS & DRAGONS deluxe adventure that updates the original 1st Edition Ravenloft module, retaining the Gothic flavor and familiar elements while expanding and reimagining some of the locations to create a deeper, richer adventure experience.
This campaign arc adventure is designed for characters of levels 6–10 and features a new, easy-to-use combat encounter format. This book also presents new magic items, feats, and prestige classes for player characters.

This book contains everything you need to launch an epic Runequest campaign set in its classic setting of Glorantha, a world of mythic adventure.
Glorantha is a world permeated by magic and shaped by myth. Its heroes achieve power by questing for runes, physical manifestations of the eternal abstract forces that shape its destiny. Eventually they graduate to even more powerful magics, learning to gain power by emulating the deeds of the gods, mastering the arcane formulae of the sorcerous arts, allying with spirits, or achieving meditative awareness of life’s unknowable secrets. In doing so, they draw on one or more of the mythic Otherworlds surrounding their everyday material world. With the right magic, they can travel to the realms of the gods, become participants in their ancestral myths, and return with wondrous new abilities. Those who fail these daunting tests may be diminished, destroyed, or eternally lost in the mythic realms.
Explorers, adventurers and kings aren’t the only ones who wield magical power here. Ordinary people practice their own spells and charms, helping them to feed, clothe and shelter themselves in what would otherwise be a hostile environment.
Glorantha is a world of clashing cultures, where good and evil aren’t always easy to sort out. Though cursed with more than its share of tyrants, monsters, and villains, no single one of its cultures maintains a monopoly on virtue. Two warring cultures can be, from their own point of view, equally right — or equally ruthless and brutal. Cultures differ on the right way to live, the true events of myth and history, and the very purpose of existence. And that’s just the humans: its inhuman races follow their own alien agendas, as laid out at the beginning of time.
In its glorious Second Age, Glorantha is the prize of warring empires. Two empires, more similar than they’d like to admit, vie for ultimate dominance. The God Learner Empire seeks to crack open and the very secrets of the gods, manipulating them to their own ends. The Empire of Wyrm’s Friends works to transform its land and people into a gigantic, mystical dragon, which will take flight and reshape the entire world.
The Second Age is a time of unprecedented discovery and exploration. For the first time, trade and travel allows the interaction of far-flung cultures. Both Empires innovate feverishly, unveiling new forms of magic, new devices, new modes of perception.
Against this backdrop of unfettered progress, dark omens gather. Men have pushed the Glorantha’s eternal laws of myth and magic to the breaking point. How long will it be before the world strikes back at them, punishing their unprecedented hubris?

Star Trek auction The first auction of official Star Trek memorabilia in New York over the weekend far exceeded expectations, raising more than $7 million from more than 1,000 lots of props, costumes, models and miniatures. The highest-selling item in the three-day auction by Christie's was a model of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, which was used in the pilot of Star Trek: The Next Generation and went for a record $576,000 to an unidentified private American bidder. The total taking of $7,107,040, including commission, was far more than double what had been expected. The top costume price was $144,000 for Dr. McCoy's space suit from the original Trek series episode "The Tholian Web." A model of a Klingon bird of prey ship, first seen in the film Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, soared to $307,200, or more than 30 times its presale estimate of $8,000 to $12,000.
Iron Man Terrence Howard has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated film. Howard will take on the role of Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, Tony Stark’s best friend. As Jim Rhodes, Howard will portray Tony Stark's confidant and associate. Rhodes is an accomplished military pilot. His daring and skills become valuable assets to Tony Stark -- the billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who becomes the armored Super Hero known as Iron Man.
"When we first began to think about Iron Man, we always envisioned Terrence as Rhodey. The richness of the role and complexity of the character seemed to mesh perfectly with the type of passion, energy and emotion that Howard brings to all of his projects," said Kevin Feige, President of Production, Marvel Studios. "Now with Terrence on board to co-star alongside Robert, we cannot be more excited about the great chemistry they will bring to Iron Man."
Bionic Woman Battlestar Galactica executive producer David Eick is teaming with feature screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis to reinvent The Bionic Woman for NBC.
Eick and Kalogridis will executive produce a new take on The Bionic Woman, a 1970s spinoff of The Six Million Dollar Man in which Lindsay Wagner played tennis pro-turned-superwoman Jaime Sommers. The series aired for two seasons on ABC before shifting to NBC in 1977 for its final year.
"It's a complete reconceptualization of the title," according to Eick. "We're using the title as a starting point, and that's all."
NBC Universal Television Studio is producing the new take, which has been given a script commitment by the network.
Instead of focusing on terrorism and militarism, the new The Bionic Woman will explore the role of professional women in contemporary society and how they juggle their various roles.
"It's using the idea of artificial technology as a metaphor for what contemporary women sometimes feel is necessary to do everything that needs to be done," Eick said.
This week’s horror movie highlight is Thirteen Ghosts (2001). The plot: Arthur and his two children, Kathy and Bobby, inherit his Uncle Cyrus's estate: a glass house that serves as a prison to 12 ghosts. When the family, accompanied by Bobby's Nanny and an attorney, enter the house they find themselves trapped inside an evil machine "designed by the devil and powered by the dead" to open the Eye of Hell. Aided by Dennis, a ghost hunter, and his rival Kalina, a ghost rights activist out to set the ghosts free, the group must do what they can to get out of the house alive.
The original 13 Ghosts (1960) is playing on the television in the apartment during the first scene following the titles.
The original trailer for this film counts up to 13, as did the original trailer for Friday the 13th (1980).
The special effects and sound mixing were so elaborate in this film, that many people claimed that the movie was physically painful to sit through.
The budget, opening weekend box office gross, and box office gross overall of this film are all virtually identical (within one million dollars) to that of House on Haunted Hill (1999), which opened almost exactly two years earlier. Both films were adapted from stories written by Robb White.
Arthur (Tony Shalhoub) stands in front of a samurai display in the house. One of the swords is a replica of Connor MacLeod's sword from the Highlander films and another is a replica of Duncan MacLeod's sword from the Highlander television series.
The effect for "The Torso" was achieved by the use of a double amputee who lost his legs wearing a black hood that could be used to digitally remove his head.
Of all the creature makeups created for the film, "The Angry Princess" required the longest time to apply makeup, at five hours.
Shawna Loyer attracted a cult following thanks to her brief role as the Angry Princess. A rumor circulated that the role was actually played by porn actress Aria Giovanni using a pseudonym, but this is incorrect (Ms. Giovanni was in an adult parody titled 13 Erotic Ghosts (2002).
In the movie, the characters need special glasses see the ghosts. In the original 13 Ghosts (1960), viewers needed special glasses to see the ghosts.
In the special features section on the twelve ghosts of the Black Zodiac, the back-story for the Bound Woman ghost shows a newspaper clipping regarding her death. It includes a reference to an "Inspector Lebeda" - William Lebeda and Picture Mill created the titles for the film.
One of the big glass walls in the glass house actually translates to read the Lord's prayer.
After Arthur punches Rafkin and they fall to the floor you can see the refection of a crew member behind Arthur on the desk.
A crewmember with a clapperboard can be seen very fleetingly during the "bloody bathroom" scene.
The Juggernaut appears before it has been released.
A clapperboard can be seen when Bobby is being lured downstairs.
The family is looking at the computer with the lawyer and he plays the movie. The stop button is pressed during the whole movie clip instead of the play button.
When Rafkin is explaining the Black Zodiac to Maggie, his mouth does not match the words that are being spoken.
The position of the picture of The Hammer in the Arcanim changes.
The Jackal casts shadows on the walls before he attacks Arthur.
When the Jackal attacks Kathy, he has one hand on her throat holding her in the air but when he lets go she does not fall down.
As Arthur and Kalina discover that Kathy has disappeared, one of the walls moves when they lean on it.
The eye color of the Jackal changes from two blue eyes to one brown and blue and then back to two blue eyes.
The stain on Arthur's shirt changes from shot to shot.
After Kathy is attacked, the marks on her face disappear in the next shot.
Just before everyone is looking through the book in the library, Rafkin has blood all over his right hand. But a little while later, his hand is completely clean.
When the Angry Princess lies in the tub, Kathy's sleeves are alternately up/down between shots.
When the house starts to transform inside, a pair of hands of the crew can be seen pushing one of the doors when it is supposed to close automatically.
During the glass house explosion, Arthur's wedding ring disappears.
